I'd like to introduce an idea that I've heard people reference before, with my "Version" of the idea I intend to solve Navigation by making it Practical & Intuitive, whilst simultaneously tackling Inventory management to some extent
The Idea: To add a Interface Panel similar yet separate from the Inventory, It would probably be named Navigation or Map, it would essentially be a Interactive Navigational Panel, where sections of the Terrain uncovered by the player would be displayed... Simultaneously a Minimap would be added to the (Heads-Up Display) which would display a more Zoomed in representation of the terrain surrounding the player.
How it would work:
- Allow Zooming In and Out (Only when using the Navigation Panel)
- Allow placing Markers (Represented by the Inventory Icons of In-Game items) (These would also be shown on the Minimap)
- Allow (But not mandate) Labeling of any Manually set Markers on the Panel
- Allow Manually highlighting of certain areas in different colors (These colored highlights would also be displayed on the minimap)
- Allow to manually add a Marker and Labeling each highlight (Of which only the marker would ever display on the minimap)
- Allow the map to automatically add a Marker when entering a Jungle Temple, Desert Pyramid and any other naturally generated structures doing so would also highlight the area with a color (both the Marker Icon and the Area Coloring should be specific to each structure Type)
And More (I was limited by a character limit)
