Extremely pedantic rambling from a real-world mycologist here, tl;dr hyphae blocks are named after something entirely unrelated in the real world, and should therefore be renamed.
While I am well aware that the Nether mushrooms are not, in fact, real (at least I would hope not), fungi as a whole most certainly are. Despite Minecraft's efforts to educate about nature, there's one glaring issue with the mycological: the so-called "hyphae" blocks are absolutely nothing like real-world hyphae. For preface: while very much fantastical, of course, Minecraft's mycelium blocks are actually reasonably close to their real world variant. Real-world mycelium is essentially the root system of a mushroom, so mycelia covering the ground of an island of massive fungi makes sense. Hyphae, in our world, are the smaller parts that mycelium consists of - small branching filaments that form that rootlike structure. The part of the huge Nether fungus that is referred to as the stem is, in our world, referred to as the stipe of the fungus. Referring to it as the stem is not necessarily incorrect, unlike the hyphae blocks. Therefore, I propose one of two things: either A) rename the hyphae blocks to stipe blocks or B) give the stem block name to the current hyphae blocks and rename the current stem blocks to stipe blocks. This would greatly please my moldy little heart.
