Most of these changes to the wolf armor are interesting. I think "pets" overall as a concept are kinda flawed from the top down which makes this armor interesting but just not that fun to use.

I think several questions arise here.
Why are we so opposed to a UI? Interactions such as clicking a horse with a saddle or armor, equipping those items is incredibly fun. But the interaction for repairing dog armor is rough. The sit hitbox is much smaller, and hard to interact with. I would have a UI window open when you click the wolves head. Have a slot for armor for the wolf, and allow for repairs to be done using the anvil workstation.

Why are there so many darn armadillo scutes? No cooldown of sweeping them off. Right click the all powerful wolf armor and tada never fear your dog is immortal.

    The Wolf Ai Problem:

Essentially the main problem with the wolf is its AI. While I would be okay without a UI to apply armor like the horse, its a shame that the actual pet AI with the wolf is so lackluster. The wolf tends to wander into danger constantly and deals damage (mostly to other players and their pets in multiplayer).

Wolves are the only creature and "true pet" in Minecraft. There are no taming interactions, besides cats, that grant you a devoted protector. The fox has a unique ability to pickup items, sniffers find cosmetic plants. The two skills of a dog- the snoot and the fetch, taken by these two untamable creatures :(

Going against requests to add enchantments to wolf armor, I don't see the point in applying some enchantments as repair, since wolf armor has a system in which it breaks, And only then does the wolf begin to take damage. It wouldn't even be viable to add armor repair

Wolf beds could be used to teleport your wolf back to you when you click on them. This way, you would never lose your wolves again

the changes are mostly absolutly great, i just have three little things to change :
    - first, the big painted part on the back of the armor looks kinda wonky and a big weird (the rest of the painted parts look really cool)
    - when wanting to heal the armor with scute, the first click sits the dog down, wich is détrimental during combat
    - and lastly, it's still written "+11 armor point" in the tool tip, wich is kinda miss-leading since the armor now protects againt 100% of damage

I made a separate suggestion for wolf armor, but I'll put it here too so it can get more exposure. My suggestion is for the armor to be modified to also work with trusting foxes. In the bedrock edition, a bug allowing player armor to be equiped onto foxes was removed, but the ability to equip foxes with wolf armor would be a great replacement for the removed feature. This could potentially make foxes more viable to use as currently there is little to no functional incentive to get trusting foxes.
Here is the link to my original suggestion:

Dear developers, I want you to update the recipe book upon achievement and also for the torches to glow in your right hand, I wish you good work

I think it's a bit better than before, though scutes need to repair more than 8 points of wolf armor, and we should be able to enchant them with animal armor specific enchants, to add more wolf damage or regeneration.

This improvement will make wolves survive better. But it's not quite an excellent update, as I expect players will find the scute repair tedious and they'll end up not bringing wolves. Maybe late-game bastion loot can upgrade it further to self repair. There's a surprising amount of new players who don't even know how to tame wolves and cats, and it needs an advancement with a clear picture of wolf + bone = taming. Pets are one of those features that makes players attached to their minecraft worlds, and there must be more in the future for other dimensions. Dragons are especially popular and they fit on end dimension, and I agree it can be interesting and fun if there's both pet armor and mount armor.

Maybe remove the armor value to balance it? It would also be cool if you could put glow dye on it, so you can see your wolves easier.

Might be controversial- I dunno. But I feel like with the new wolf variations, the wolf armor is a little too overwhelming. I think we all wanna be able to see the cool new patterns the new wolf variations have! That’s hard to do with how much the armor covers the model. Maybe just shave down the segment covering the lower back / smaller section of the main body? Cheers

The new wolf variants are great, we have hyenas in Minecraft! Biomes feel more unique now. I hope some of them can be more like huskies/retrievers, deviating slightly more from normal-wolf look.

Even though I voted the unique-looking crab as the reach accessory is useful for combat and exploration, I have NO regrets that armadillo wins now. Some of the most highly-requested wolf features are here because of armadillo, these are decades-old suggestions. Plus, the wolf armor is at least usable now, repairs just need to be easier & more convenient so bringing wolves is NOT detrimental. Armadillo definitely feels like the right choice, and mob votes should feel this way, instead of disappointing squid reskins.

1.21 is looking good as it caters to combat players, explorers, redstoners, pet lovers, builders etc. Many Youtubers enjoy having these pet features in Minecraft, as well as chambers adding gameplay content. I think the few flaws left is the chambers; Breeze charges are items you need tons of, for parkour content & jumping mountains etc, but atm it needs to be farmed slowly, making it very useless. It needs to be craftable into a reusable weapon instead, it'll really satisfy combat and exploration players! Often, mojang additions are unfortunately made less fun/viable for the sake of simplicity/consistency, such as copper bulb ticks which could revolutionize redstone, but it's now gone. Content should ideally generate some hype to entice new & old players to come back.

Wow wolves have skins for different biomes now, this is now the Dungeons and Doggies update and I love it very much!!! Please let players upgrade wolves with damage enchants or armor durability, I want to play minecraft with these guys but wolf damage is too small, and they end up lowering the player's damage output as they're blocking in the way. Wolf variants can have special abilities... maybe snow wolves can ignore powder snow as they can die from it.

Hi, i like the customization of wolf armor, but i think that with the new variants of the wolf, the parts of the armor that are not dyed, stethically a it's bad. I think that those parts should be dyable. Maybe with an other color. To make it more customizable.

After testing the latest updates more, I love the wolf pack-size variety, and the savanna types that spawn 4-8 packs can really make minecraft worlds feel alive! Minecraft can be very lonely sometimes and without mobs to interact to, it will get boring. (Though sometimes you actually want the lonely scary vibe in certain areas, which is why backrooms mods in MC are so popular)

Still, traveling companions add so much incentive to play minecraft. It definitely would be nice if we can upgrade our companions, because back then the most convenient and effective way to use wolves was to not heal them and keep breeding. They felt like disposable soldiers. But with wolf armor enchants using valuable books, each wolf will feel more valuable and it'll encourage players to build a connection with them.

This is looking to be a decent update. I can imagine the trailer for 1.21, Steve and Alex exploring trial chambers with their wolf companions, then fighting the big bad of the dungeons, it's gonna be exciting like those "bees fight" fanmade MC animations! I don't mind if this update takes a while longer, I just hope it's truly fleshed out to something amazing.

As a side suggestion, it may be better to put all 1.21 topics into the "minecraft update 1.21" category, instead of separating topics to "mobs" category like this.

I am SO happy y'all are finally adding wolf armour. I feel like this is something that should have been added a long time ago since pet wolves have always felt like such a liability, and you have to protect them with your life, so they don't die.

Eu AMEI as novas mudanças, só acho que a durabilidade da armadura é baixa e a armadura quebra muito rápido.

With the new wolf variants, I think players should be able to breed wolves belonging to a different player. That way if one player collects interesting wolf variants, they can share the puppies with a friend.

I think wolves are maybe a bit overpowered now, so my idea is that you nerf them and/or the armor, but make the armor enchantable as a tradeoff, so you have to put in extra work to make them stronger, but for example Unbreaking could make the armor last even longer.

It would make them more interesting and even more customizable as well.

I think the armor also needs to block freezing damage. It's horrible when you're exploring with your wolf and you hear it hurting! By the time you rescue it, it could be too late. It just makes sense for the armor to fix this. Thank You!

If player armor works for players, zombies (and variants), skeletons (and variants), villagers (technically), and even allays, why can’t wolf armor work for other pets? Same for horse armor, why doesn’t it work for other mounts? This doesn’t seem consistent. You seem so focused on consistency, yet you aren’t consistent.

I am very glad that the team finally decided to give our beloved Canine Companion the care they deserved after all these years. And so far personally I do think that protection and customizability do play a huge role in making our companion better and safer. However, I would like to add some simple but crucial changes to the wolf logic which does have a huge impact on their reliablity, as I have been studying them for some time already.
    1. Their Leap-to-Attack Logic: As the current implementation, the wolf occasionally leaps at the target when they reach a certain distance closer to the target. However, this logic doesn't check whether the target is in a dangerous area or not, causing wolves to very often, follow their target down hazardous areas (e.g. lava). This can be improved by reducing the jump distance and adding additional checks if the target is in hazard.
    2. Their max-distance fall tolerate: As per the current implementation when the target runs and falls down from a high platform, the wolf keeps on pursuing the target and path to the open spot, falling to its own death. This can be improved by forcing the wolf's pathfinder to not tolerate path points that are more than 3-4 blocks lower the previous path points and forcefully making the wolf discard the target if the target falls more than 4 - 5 blocks.
    3. The wolf should discard the target and teleport back to the owner while it is fighting when it is more than a certain distance away from the owner.

Reinforced Iron-Gold or Diamond Wolf Armor.

Wolf Armor is good, Mojanf did a greate job developing the dog armor and our cute dogs not only have new textures, now they are protected of any hostile mob.

    But

still not enough to protect our cute friends, so, i think a Iron, gold or diamond reinforced Wolf armor could be our best choice to protect our pet.

Just like the horse armor, it could be found in chests or if you want could be crafteable in the crafting table or the smithing table.

I hope this become a feature in any snapshot and i'm very happy with the 1.21 developing.

    ¡Well done Mojang!

I don’t like update 1.21 because the Minecraft became other game Minecraft in 2024 it is not Minecraft now
