Currently, minecraft exploration feels more like a jackpot randomizer instead of an adventure since it's hard to find rare structure or when you're trying to find a specific structure, becoming more like a chore for the sake of finding one instead of feeling like you're on an adventure.
So here's my suggestion, an implementation of an exploration system through trades and loots.
When players find a structure, it should be able to lead them to one or two types of other different structure, whether it be through old maps or lodestone-like compasses etc.
For example, when a players finds a jungle temple, a compass found within the loot chest could lead them to a outpost, which would then lead them to a mansion or so on. I believe this would not only help players discover structures along their journey, but also aid in creating their own story of adventure.
Loots found from these structures should also improve their ability to raid/loot the next few structures.
In terms of trading, villages could be seen as a place to temporarily rest & restock. Trading in for new items that would either boost exploration efficiency or reduce clutter built up from exploration loot. For examples, a village could allow non-specific enchanted books to be combined or traded in for gems in exchange for potions or food supplies.
By linking these structures together, I think it would encourage players to explore further and longer before acquiring end game items such as elytra and shulker boxes
