Okay, by now we've all heard of the sculk jaw. The block that never blocked. Let's put it back in, shall we?
The sculk jaw would have a 3 percent chance of generating instead of a sculk block. It would, at first, appear as a sculk block (with a slightly different texture) but when stepped on, or when an item was dropped onto it, it would open up and open and close, never returning to its dormant state. When an item was dropped onto it, it would engulf it and spread a different amount of sculk depending on its value. When an entity went onto it, however, it would hide the teeth, become non-solid, and then extend the teeth again, trapping it and doing damage until the target either escaped or was consumed. For larger mobs, it would attempt to grab them by a leg (or something else) and eventually bring them inside. When a player walked onto it, they would fall in by one block, (half of player height), and be slowly pulled inside, while taking damage all the same. When a sculk jaw was broken, it would drop 10% of all the items inside. They would also release a redstone signal equal to 1/5 the number of items they had eaten when next to a comparator. This would be needed because it would provide a sense of danger in the deep dark even when the warden wasn't awakened, causing players to tread carefully, in a place where that should be standard, but doesn't seem to be.
Edit: Sneaking could prevent one from falling in, and the death message could be "Player got lost in the dark."
