You should add a sculk dimension that’s 8x bigger than the Overworld. The extra size would allow players to use it like a pocket dimension, storing laggy builds such as item sorters that don’t need to be loaded all the time, but still need to be nearby for convenience. I could even see technical players setting up contraptions to send items in and out of the dimension without entering the portal themselves, or using the dimension to pack more redstone into a smaller space on the Overworld, analogous to cloud computing.
To get to the dimension itself, you’d have to build a portal using reinforced deepslate. You can find it naturally in ancient cities, but you mine the blocks with a netherite pickaxe and make several smaller portals elsewhere if desired, or just use the natural portal if you prefer.
The specifics are less important here, but I have a few ideas - The dimension shouldn’t be immediately hostile like the Deep Dark, but still require good gear. Most of the place would be caves and old bunkers, with an upper layer around Y=150 with sculk animals and trees that can sometimes block out the sun.
Importantly, unlit portals would spawn like nether portals in the Overworld. Having travelled far, a weary player could stumble upon a portal and light it to return to the Overworld, only to find themselves a couple hundred blocks away from home. This jarring disparity in travel distance would drive home how much bigger the sculk dimension is, and get the ideas flowing.
