Items dropped when a player dies should not despawn

I think items that drop when a player dies should never despawn. You can lose hours of work just because you were too slow getting back to your items, which is especially unfair to handicapped and disabled people who may have to play minecraft slower than most, they get unfairly punished.

    or at least give us a chest that contains all the loot when a player is killed and disappears once the player gets their loot back

    A lot of games, and mods, use a gravestone or sometimes your prior body as a storage for your items.

    Ultimately anything that stops you losing all that work for such a silly reason.

    Items "despawning" is such bad game design and a really cruel and unjust punishment for dying.

    I lost my diamond armor, tools, and 11 diamonds just because I got lost in a mineshaft and couldn't find where I died

    this is the only reason i had always enabled cheats, so i can teleport to the items and retrieve them
