After having dug one up, Its a very mixed structure for me. While the concept of a completely buried structure is nice, I dont think it is in any great way executed upon here.

The structures themselves are a pick and mix of random block pallettes with a (rather nice, to be fair) colorful touch. They are usually indistinguishable towers or ruin piles, with no discernable purpose or interior, and the fact that actually looking at them from above is so hard worsens it. (And yes, I have looked at the structures on their own, and it doesnt get better).

The loot is, and Im gonna say this as nicely as possible, rather pointless. The trims and shards are great, but if you have to get through 12 colors of glass panes, dyes and candles to get a couple, you are not going to appreciate them as much. Its just far too much junk loot. And the "storytelling" aspect isnt helped much, as much more than "they liked colors and farmed a bit" cant be gleamed from it.

Further expanding on the loot topic, there should definetly be either ore blocks or other such loot blocks in the structure so that digging up every piece is more encouraged.

Lastly, the structures need some empty space. Yes, digging up stuff is all nice and well, but it would be infinitely more satisfying to sometimes come upon a somewhat preserved room or hall.

To summarize: They need a consistent visual theme, an extreme reduction of "junk loot", possibly existing pots or ore blocks, empty spaces and just more recognizable buildings.

It is a unique concept which already makes it intriguing. However, the use of terracotta could better fit in the badlands as long as the colours differ from terrain generation. For other biomes, something a little less contrasting might be more pleasant to the eye (perhaps cobblestone in plains, deepslate in Taiga etc.). Glazed terracotta is a strange block and rarely works well in builds. My suggestion would be to either replace it in the structure by a different one or retexture it if possible. If the time and resources are available, a more polished deepslate crypt could be a nice addition to the already fantastic trail ruin. It would make great use of the chiseled bookshelf block. By being more polished, it could also seem like a secret bunker of the civilization that might have once resided in the trail ruins.

    ANCIENT CITY MAP
    FRAGMENTS!!!

Imagine if in some Archeology sites you can find hidden map fragments. If you can find four you can combine it to craft an actual map that leads to Ancient Cities. (The maps would work similarly to Ocean Monument and Mansion maps).

I think this would be a super cool exclusive and unique item that gives players more incentive to dig through these archeological sites! Please Mojang this would be super easy and cool!!

I love  this approach, but it needs more depth. History isn't one period of time, generally as time moves on structures and their materials get more complex. Archeological sites of interest aren't always buildings, they're earthworks (ditches and mounds), areas where the landscape looks slightly off or suspiscious. ;) Ancient trackways for instance were often embankments and ditches. There are also monuments from the past like circles of stones. I love speculating the past based off the landscape and things i find and it's awesome that experience is coming to Minecraft.

Trail Ruins in Minecraft should reflect the history of the culture that has been alluded to, they wouldn't have started with buildings. My idea for the trail ruins is that they should be a network of ruins that have different depths and that depict different ages of history. The depth of the ruin beneath the ground can determine the scale and rarity of the ruin. There should be common surface ruins like buildings, defenses and paths. The paths in these ruins can point to the general direction of other ruins. All paths should lead to a suspiscious hill IE an archeology Tell / large trail ruin which could house a very large, rare complex of ruins that players can excavate. These big ruins could have advanced loot for a reward and spawners, to make the digging and brushing an extra challenge.

It would be cool to see small trail ruins act as a guide to lead you to a much larger trail ruin like a trail.

I adore the idea of it!  Right now, it feels like a midden heap, which is good in moderation, but what would make this more interesting is if there was some cohesion in the blocks.  It's a trail ruin, right?  Meant to echo what would be left behind on a well-travelled trail?  There would probably be structures nearby, so that would be an interesting place to explore.  Or maybe the trail ruin is a ruin of a waystation, which means there's an opportunity for more cool loot that kind of whispers about the people who came before.  I'm excited to see how this grows and changes!

I feel like finding sand in these structures feels out of place, since there is no sand underground. The variety of blocks that make up the structure makes it feel weird. There should be some ruined structures on the surface, the same as there are at sea, but not buried, or suspicious gravel patches underground.

Pots should have a 1-2 item slot inventory.  That being said, you should be able to find regular pots in the trail ruins with chances of hidden loot inside.  Loot includes emeralds, gold nuggets, coal, bones, and cobwebs.  You should also be able to find a door or trapdoor inside a trail ruins on a very rare occasion.  More terracotta and mud, less glazed terracotta.

hello my idea to add to the suspicious sand is Steve's head and the other heads giving more context to them within the game it doesn't make sense to have Steve's head if you can't use it in mode survival.

I don't know how it will be in the final version, but I ask that you keep the way of making the pitcher as shown in 1.17 and that it has at least that camp that was shown, it was also much better that version shown in Minecraft live.

Maybe add more functional blocks... it will make the rooms seem like they were used once.

Please replace the terracotta with stone, mud, and wood variants. Also, the glass panes and dyes should be removed from the loot table. Candles can stay, but there should be more ancient items there.

i think it is to random. (it kinda looks like someone just had random blocks and dumped them there) maybe like a fallen structure would be better (like almost a building but fallen in despair) love the concept

A new decoration item called an ancient rock which would look like a small peace of Minecraft granite or andesite or rarely deepslate.  They would be found when excavated from a suspicious gravel block in trail ruins. You can then take your brand new ancient rock to your Minecraft house and display it on your walls floor or selling without requiring an item frame.  It would be a smaller Version of the real stone block type.

I love them! They are made of my favorite blocks, which gives me more inspiration for my future builds, maybe one day I'll "restore" them. In terms of lore theories, i like to think that there used to live people(players civilization)

And also trail ruins remind me of days when i started creative world as a child, poured lava on trees and then poured water on lava column. I have been imagining that in resulting cobblestone towers lived ancient and mighty creatures. And now I see something very similar but much more alive. Thank you.

P.S. And this structure does not need more rich loot, more mechanics, any other additional features. It is good and sufficient as it is. Finally a structure where you can and want to stay.

Se essa torre que fica no meio talvez se fosse deitada e se não tivesse tanta confusão essa construção seria mais bonita. Por favor mojang concerta isso pois não tá bonito.

The structure is a good idea but the design is very shabby, I think it needs more work and should be more epic. We need more exclusive archeology items like creature fossils.

Trail ruins need statues within that resemble things like beacons, conduits, iron golems an snow golems to teach players how to make them.

i love that we're getting even more structures and i also like how they incorporate many blocks that haven't been incorporated into structures yet like terracotta and mud bricks, but i think they look way too ugly, not sure if this is a bad thing or not considering their context.

The Trail Ruins are AWSOME! they are very similar to my ancient village idea. All i will say is the block pallet needs to be more simple and decisive than just a mix of colors. For example the ancient cities are almost complete deepslate, dessert temples and wells are sand, jungle temples are cobblestone, and villagers and pillagers have there pallets as well. The trail ruins needs to pick out 2 or three terracotta colors, and maybe 3 other building blocks. (lets say mud bricks, bricks and cobblestone.) This will show us more of the long lost culture that resided there long ago. As the dirt, gravel, and dirt are concerned keep it. I would also say more air pockets and less destruction of the structure.

    Add a suspicious dirt block

Spread the suspicious gravel, and sand (maybe a new dirt type) and spread them across the outskirts of the structure. This way you can always keep excavating.

Needs a more decisive build pallete

Decorated pots should spawn naturally outside of the trail ruin houses with some of the pottery sherds crafted on them already. If you smash the pots the pottery sherd(s) will drop, along with food, gold, or emeralds. (this idea will show that the pots were once used to store currency and food (having the pots in these ancient structures will also introduce players to pot decorating.))

Pot designs should be dyeable, and maybe pots as a whole too (this will really boost storytelling and self expression)

I'm commenting it hear so the Minecraft team can see it. For future updates add a autumn grove like the new cherry grove. (look at my season feedback for more details "How Seasons CAN Work In Minecraft Part 1" (thanks for listening I REALLY WANT SEASONS IN MINECRAFT ITS MY DREAM! =) )) Players vote this to the top of every post I copy this to!
