The current enchanting system is good, but it is starting to feel a little outdated as more enchantments arrive. I suggest reworking parts of the enchanting, mainly the books and adding their enchantments to tools.
Why? Because most of it requires a lot of going back and forth with too much XP, especially when that XP can be lost and all that is regained is around 7 levels. Either way, it takes a long time without the player needing to explore or find loot.
Rewrite the anvil to be similar to the smithing table for 1.20. A few things need to be done first:
- Set any type of enchanting or naming, etc to have a set value, however enchanting can fluctuate depending on how powerful it is. For example, naming is 1 level, while Protection is 10.
- Include descriptions as well as titles and font styles.
- Create effects on the tools that have enchantments.
Next, include the ability to not only use a set number of levels per enchantment, but also make the player use one item that corresponds to the enchantment, this encourages looting and exploration, while also making it somewhat fun. For example: Protection needs Netherite while Frost Walker need Blue Ice, etc.
Finally, allow the player to upgrade the enchantment by adding more levels and resources to its set limit. Each level of enchantment will increase the resource cost by 1 and can increase the level cost by a set amount depending on the type of enchantment.
I think this will add something new but keep other parts original to the game.
