Pottery Shards: Panda, Melon, and Sniffer shards. I just like watermelon and it would be cool if the jungle temple could be an archaeological site.

I would love to see the old system back where you have to bake the pot. The way I would implement it would be that you can place pots on campfires even though they aren't a full block, kind of like how you can place a candle on cake. the recipe would then change to using clay balls (which is one of the most useless items in Minecraft right now) and you right-click with the shard on the face that you want it to be added to, just like before.

I think there is plenty of potential for the archeology feature, I do think it could be improved with more unique items that you can find. Like an amulet that has a unique function when worn by a player. There could also be figurines of different mobs. Along with that I could see there being different colored pot shards like blue, green, etc. which could even have different patterns on them. There could also be ancient masks with different variants for story telling. Also I think that there are more places where the items could spawn like ocean ruins, maybe there could be a new item called suspicious gravel in case the ocean ruins spawn in a biome with gravel.

Please add archeology on the beaches. In real life the sand of the beaches it's a place full of treasures to find.

I think the older way of making pots was more interesting than it is currently. making them out of clay and then firing them to create a finished pot is a cool concept, especially now that clay is renewable so it's not so much of a precious resource.

I also think the brush should be crafted with copper, as it appears in the texture. as of now copper really doesn't have a proper sink to make the player want to have it. that would be a step in the right direction.

right now I actually avoid copper when mining because it's too plentiful and I don't have much use for it aside from a few select items crafted with it.

Pots should be able to contain a maximum of 3 items or a certain amount of XP so that map makers could use them for players to gain XP.

For some reason the suspicious sand in Minecraft Preview do not have pottery shards in them. Is this intentional? Or should I submit this to the bug tracker?

Loving how archaeology looks so far, but there's a few extra features I'd love to see!

-I think we should be able to right click any item onto a placed Pot to hide an item inside of it. Smashing the pot would drop the item, or you could retrieve it by sneaking and interacting with it. It's been a quintessential part of gaming since the NES days to hide things inside of conspicuous pots, and I'd love to incorporate it into some builds and adventure maps.

-It would also be really cool if we could find non-functional versions of removed or version specific Minecraft items in Suspicious Sand as "Relics." Things like a broken Cog, a petrified Classic Rose, a petrified Blue Rose from Pocket Edition, or even a Ruby from Minecraft Earth would be wonderful easter egg treasures to dig up! If you wanted to add a further purpose to them beyond being collectables, a new Villager that trades Emeralds for Relics could also be a good idea, and Suspicious Sand seems uncommon enough that it won't be too profitable.

Put this in a post before. (REPOST)

Archaeology seems like a pretty unfinished feature. I like it so far, but it feels like Mojang gave up on giving clay a new use besides bricks. I have an idea for how to implement the clay pot idea with the current archaeology system; 1) Player crafts a raw clay pot out of clay balls in crafting table. 2) Player attaches shards to raw clay pot in crafting table. This could use the current system of shards on each side and a brick for a blank side, but have a raw clay pot in the middle of the recipe. 3) Player bakes raw clay pot over campfire. After a bit, it turns into a completed pot! This system would a) give a new use for clay and implement baking pottery and b) retain the original shard+brick idea.

Add mechanics from the minecon, make the oxidation of the brush (and so that this oxidation affects something), make the block smaller during excavation, make more varieties of drawings on vases, because the developers promised that we would be able to build a story on these vases

    (tested in java edition)

This is an amazing feature! The brush doesn't dig like it's supposed to, but I assume you are working on that.

    /// Archeaology sus sand/dirt, brush everything///

I think sus sand should be found out side from structurs.

Lets say there is a diffrent kind of sus sand wich can be found in the default dessert tarain but this sus sand is very rare.
So players wich are farming a ton of sand can find some of it.
This sand has its own loottable wich could or could not contain pot shards.
There should be also "sus dirt" in the normal biom tarins wich is also rare and could contain shards or not.

We should also be able to brush gravel/normal dirt/normal sand.
This could give players the option to get some items wich arent "renewable"[iron/gold nuggets, plants, flint, basic stuff in generall] but at a very low rate to make it balanced so not every block gives itmes when brushend and have a low chance to get "rare" drops.
After brushing the block it should be destroyed.
    IMPORTENT!!
Why i wanna see this added!!:
This gives superflat/skyblock players the option to geather Ressources wich they wernt able to get.

I love the decorated pots so much! I would really like to be able to dye them so they fit in with more of my builds. I think the smaller pot works with the regular hardened clay texture because it's so small. However, the color is a bit more noticeable with the larger decorated pots. If we could turn them the same colors as all the terracotta, that would be great! Taking it one step further, if we could throw a dyed decorated pot into a furnace and get back a glazed cotta pot, that would be fantastic!

Thank you, Mojang, for hosting this discussion and for all the amazing work you have been doing on this wonderful game that we all adore! <3

I'm very happy archaeology is in minecraft, and I have two suggestions:

-This could be cool if there was suspicious gravel in abandoned mineshaft
-The mechanics of the old pots in my opinion were better

we need what you guys show at the live event.
sus sand must be swept away pixel by pixel , not the different breaking animation !! in real world people swep the dust on the item right we dont break the sand and magicly get the item and when we stop item need to break cause this are delicate items so they break easy.
pot need to be Cook on fire or in furnace this is how pots are made how new player cant know that, you can put tips in the game or everyone can wqtch youtube there wasnt even recipe book for how many year how new people know how to make any item we look to youtube so pot need to cook on fire or furnace this is not excuse ( i saw comment that this is what devs said so this is why i wrote this pot on fire thing )

and this archeology is must be every where , when we dig we must be able to find sus dirt or sus gravel and this must indicate that this area is archeology area so there must be more sus dirt cause this is how real world work , archeology not just done inside pyramid but also in cave or any area ,well i am sure it will not just be inside pyramid but i want to write this .

it can be so cool and can be get so rich, right now it not even good as what you guys show as demo so please develope it good. original minecraft need more attention

I love the new archeology ! but i prefered the old system where you needed to put it under the fire and i also prefer the old look ... And i have an idea for this new update :

    1. let us put 2 block flowers in them please ! give them a usage !
    2. You could also add new structures like some dinosaur fossils and also dig sites like the first showcase !
    3. you could also add other suspicious blocks like suspicious dirt, gravel, etc...
    4. Please don't just add pots, add statues, fossils, etc...

I think that Suspicious Sand should be renamed to something different, like Silt or Sediment

I think the old archaeology system announced at Minecraft Live 2020 is better than the new archaeology system announced in Minecraft Snapshot 23w07a

    1. Archaeological Excavation Sites

    - Instead of finding the suspicious sands inside the Desert Temples or the Desert Wells, why can't we have a new structure called "Archaeology Excavation Site"? This structure was introduced at Minecraft Live 3 years ago and I think that's cool because you can find more excavation blocks there

    2. Clay Pots

    - No, I'm not talk about the Decorated Pots. I'm talking about the old pot system called the "Clay Pot". You can only craft it with normal clay blocks to cook it, place it above a campfire/fire and wait for a few seconds to cook it and you'll get the Decorated Pot (which is called the Painted Clay Pot at Minecraft Live 2020)

    3. Ceramic Shards

Again, not the Pottery Shards. The ceramic shards are better because you can put it anywhere on the Clay Pot (even on the corners of the pot). That's a good idea for story telling. And also, if you can put the ceramic shards right into the pot, you don't have to craft the pot again, it just wastes your bricks, why can't you just put the shards right into the pot?

    4. More Excavation Blocks

    - We only have Suspicious Sand, why don't we have more things like Suspicious Dirt, Suspicious Red Sand, Suspicious Gravel, Suspicious Mud?

Maybe add a nether variant of the decorated pot crafted with nether bricks? Nether bricks could really use more uses and more building variation never hurts.

Personally new dig sites would be cool, such as near jungle temples, ocean ruins and monuments, but maybe like was shown in Minecon, abandoned dig sites. Often you can find half dug up fossils in pits here, and a whole lot of sus archeology blocks, such as dirt or grave. In colder biomes, such as snowy peaks or ice spikes, maybe you can find permafrost and an archeology variant. Permafrost could be found in patches or under the ice, and the sus version would have to be thawed into sus dirt before it could be brushed. It would usually contain much better loot, and sniffer eggs (lets face it: ice is used for preserving things. If the sniffer egg was found anywhere else, it would be more like a trophy, an unhatchable egg).

Another idea would be more pots. Like stone pots or mossy versions found in jungle temples. Maybe rare granite or prismarine versions underwater.

I think it would be cool to be able to copy the shards (like copying a smithing template) by putting them together in the crafting table with a clay ball, like you're pressing them into the clay to make an impression.

At the moment, they're in an odd position where their only use is for decoration but because they're so rare to find it's hard to get enough of them to actually decorate a base with.

The recipe should be a string on top of a copper ingot on top of a stick, not a string pickaxe.

I loved how it was done at minecraft live, but what is currently being developed is lackluster and boring. Now I can only put simple symbols instead of images that let me create stories, not sure how I can do that as of now. Don't fix it if it aint broke

The pots are really cool and can add a lot to building all kinds of new structures. The only thing I say is needed for them for sure is just more shards to change how the sides look and the ability to dye them. There are also several texture issues with them but I’m sure you guys are already sorting them out. Great feature though

    Long time fan of Minecraft.

I think that the suspicious sand and future suspicious blocks in general should keep their block state so that the player base can create different levels to their hills and finally be able to create the coveted dirt slab. other than that Love the Update.
