The current update on archeology is big for archeology update in 1.20 but compared to the 1.17 trailer it's too smol. I would say the developers should add the areas where we will find more of the suspicious sand and something new as sus dirt or gravel. They should really change the crafting recipe for the brush, instead of string we should use feathers for the tip and some copper for the handle. And the texture pack for the pot just like in the trailer of 1.17  and when crafting the pot if we put any of the flowers in the middle it should get added to the pot as well. Max quantity of puting flowers should be 3 or 4. And by that the developers can add one more item like the bundle to put different types of flowers in on inventory slot. And one last thing a new type of villager like the wandering trader. He would be found working in the architect sites.

It would be also great if we can use the brush to dig out relic/items from dirt or gravel type blocks like how they showed it during Minecraft Live. Maybe we could find archeological sites at “Jungle Temples” or “Abandoned villages” giving them new purpose as well.

I think a cool idea to add to pots would to be able to hide items in it
You could click on it with an item and it gets inserted into it
Whenever you break the pot the item gets dropped

I'm super happy that archeology is finally in the game!
Though I do think it needs more work. I'm kinda sad the old mechanic of firing up the pot above a fire is gone. It looked so cool and also could've been used as a storytelling aspect with unfinished and half finished pots. Next are the shards, I hope there's gonna be more since four will get repetitive pretty fast but the way they look are really well done! Or if there's not gonna be more shards then having different artefacts or decorations to be dug up like decorational totems, maybe an ancient chest or clay tablets or maybe even like a mask or a headpiece could really benefit the storytelling part of this feature! The pot itself is a definite upgrade visually, love the shape and style~

The brush though is a miss crafting-wise. It basically doesn't make sense since it literally has a copper part holding the bristles yet no copper is used in the recipe. I can understand the string being used but not having copper there is kinda weird.

I hope there's gonna be more archeological sites added in the game though I'm glad the desert pyramid and well have been included in the dig sites, great way to update the structures in a cool way!!

All in all, I'm giving the feature a solid 7,5/10, a very promising feature with lots of possibilities!

Side note: I think fossils could also be used as dig sites for suspicious sand or maybe with a different variant of suspicious soil~

This is a really cool system with some amazing potential. I was especially excited to discover a new room in the desert temple. I can't wait to see where the team goes with this.

    I have some points though.

1 - The Brush should be made using Copper as a crafting ingredient, as many people expected it to. Copper is visible on the Brush sprite, and it would be a good reason to mine Copper.

2 - I found the method of making the pots a bit unintuitive, and sadly lacked immersion when compared to the old system of sticking shards on an empty pot yourself. Just crafting it in a table feels a lot less like you're reconstructing a story than placing the shards and drawings on the pot. I also liked the idea of firing the pot up to make it permanent.

3 - More digsites throughout the desert would be amazing! Maybe even in the general desert, just some random patches of suspicious sand would be so cool. A civilisation completely lost, and these buried remains is all that's left, not even any structure!

All in all though, I am really excited to see where this is going!

It would be amazing if there was a variety of pot designs that could be found around different temples/structures

I thing brush tool may have new crafting recipe, stick, copper ingot, string, and two feathers. instead old recipe its too simple.

I think the recipe for the brush should be changed a little. If we look closely to the brush sprite, then we'll see that it already has an orange thingy near the top. Wouldn't it be better if the brush had to be crafted with a copper ingot? At least it would give copper more uses instead of it being just an ore for building...

Sandstone should become eroded with brushing, and should exist in nature, possibly off the sides of mountains.

Outside of more shards and locations, I think what the pots themselves need is color.

Perhaps if we placed dye in the center of the crafting recipe, it would dye the pot that color. Maybe you could use the same colors as dyed terracotta since it's basically the same material

Also, it would be cool if you could "paint" the shard patterns by applying dye to the side the same way you apply dye to signs or wax to copper. Not only would this create more chances for customization, but also there could easter egg deeigns for different for different dyes on the different patterns. For example, maybe Light Blue dye will make the "Hands Up" pattern look like Steve, Lime could make it look like Alex, Black like Kai etc.

I think there is plenty of potential for the archeology feature, some ideas for things to dig up could be an amulet that can control hostile mobs and make them fight for you. There could also be figurines of different mobs. Along with that I cold see there being different colored pot shards like blue, green, etc. They could even have different patterns on them. There could also be ancient masks with different variants for story telling. Also it could be cool to see the brush's recipe be made with a stick, copper, and a couple feathers.

Really simply. The brush recipe should include something else. The pots seem like they should have an inventory. Perhaps something small like 3 slots. The pots also should have more variation. Please make one with a sniffer or a cow. And of course we need suspicious gravel and dirt.

I think it should be in the Jungle temple, Sea ruins, Mineshafts, ect.

Also in Minecraft live 1.17 a new structure was showed berried under the dirt. I still think that's a good idea.

lastly, add a storage function to the pots.

It is already great though. can't wait to see more

Right now, archeology seems pretty bare-bones. There are a couple of things that I think would vastly improve the feature. First, instead of using a crafting table to craft pots from shards, I think there should be a new dedicated block for pottery: a pottery wheel. The pottery wheel would have 4 slots for pottery shards, one for each side, and a slot for dye, to be able to dye the pot. Furthermore, I think this should craft an "un-kilned" raw pot, and to cook the pot, it should be placed over an open flame. To expand the pottery wheel, I think it should be a new villager profession block, with a new potter villager type. The potter can sell things like clay, dyes, archeology brushes, and flower pots.

The Archaeology features in the game right now are great, but there is a lot more potential:

    • More Shards
    • Excavation Sites present in more Structures (ex: Jungle Temples, Mineshafts, Ancient Cities, etc)
    • Dyed Pots

It seems to me that pitchers lack functionality
    Ideas :
    1. Make a jug like a shalker, but only for liquids.
2 Make a jug like a shalker , but items can only be obtained when it is destroyed
More ideas : You can make 2 types :
    1- cargo
    2- decorative

hello Minecraft developers, and how do you like the idea of adding new structures for archaeology so that you can conduct excavations in almost every biome, for example, in the taiga biome, in the mesa, plains, swamps, jungles, and others, but also new buildings for excavations, but perhaps that's all I hope my idea will be noticed.

It would be cool if with the help of a new flower (an ancient flower) it would be possible to create a new "rule" for armor (for coloring), or add them as a color (orange) for coloring armor (by the type of diamond, amethyst shard, iron gold, quartz, etc.)

I think pots can be a great way to store and transport large amounts of fluids. Instead of several water buckets clogging up your inventory, a pot can hold 3 buckets of fluid in one slot.

Also, the pots should first be crafted, decorations applied, and fired afterwards like in the minecraft live trailer. This may allow further customisation to the shape of pots, for example.

Hi Mojang! I have a suggestion for the pots and the shards.. maybe we could dye the shards (on inventory with any dye) and maybe we could dye the pots (on crafting table while crafting the pot, with any dye on the middle slot) dyeing with terracota color palette... doing this, we could do many combinations of colored blocks and colored columns (pot with another pot on top)...
Maybe you could the colored shards like the colored trim of the armor... or coloring only the decoration (e.g. the gem only, not the decoration on top and bottom of that)

I think completely updating the temples could add more spots to put archaeology blocks like suspicious sand and they could even procedurally generate for a different adventure every time. Archaeology should be in every ruin and temple to make exploration more rewarding. This could also be an opportunity to add new types of temples or ruins.

For the pots I think there should be more shards and more variation of the block itself like being able to make different colors or patterns on its surface.

The brush has an amazing texture but, it looks like the texture has a copper piece in the middle that connects the handle and the strings of brush. However the recipe doesn't contain a copper ingot. I feel like it should have the copper ingot so copper has more uses and the recipe matches the texture.

I think that the way you dig up the ITEMS in Archaeology should be that the layers of that SUS sand get removed 1 by 1 like it did back in minecraft live 2020!

I think the crafting recipes for the brush and the pots should be changed. Firstly, the brush should be crafted with one feather, a copper ingot and a stick, or something along those lines. Secondly, the pots should be crafted with 4 or 8 pieces of clay, and when they are placed down, you can put the shards onto each face of the pots. Once a fire is lit underneath the pots, they become hardened. Perhaps when you break a clay pot with shards in them, they drop the shards and the pot as individual items. This process is similar to what we saw in the early previews, and I think this would make the whole archaeology process more exciting.

Besides crafting, I also believe shards should actually be referred to as 'potsherds' or 'sherds' as those names are more accurate of what they actually are. There should also be more shards than there currently are now.

I really like the Archaeology features. The only change I have is making suspicious sand turn to sand instead of breaking so it's like Java edition.

Crafting Sand with any item of your choice at a crafting table should give you Suspicious Sand containing that item (e.g. crafting Sand with an Amethyst would give you Suspicious Sand containing an Amethyst). This could be useful in making fun treasure hunts with your friends

The concept of archeology was great i was excited but with the new current snapshot it feels lacking than what we saw on the minecon live not just the design but also the mechanics like putting shards while heating the vase and also the brush recipe it looks like a string pickaxe i agree with the other people for the feathers and copper

Archeology has been a really cool feature so far but it definitely needs more to be complete. One suggestion I have is making pots and other unique types of pots to generate in desert temples. This adds so much character to the temples and can be a way for players to get different types of pots. Another cool thing to add could be to add more rooms with sus sand and different characteristics. Like different loot and different style.

Not accusing, but the archeology has been very, very good so far. But the mechanics at the preview in 2020 are more promising. Like there is suspicious gravel and suspicious dirt. when doing the binding/brushing also I prefer the one in the old preview, the height on the block slowly decreases. And I don't think there's anything wrong with suspicious blocks having their own recipe for decoration reasons. So I think it would be great if this became real.
