No, that would be unbalanced. Trims are meant to be only cosmetic.

Actually having an item that is hard to obtain and cost dimands to make that does basicly nothing is unballanced. Difficulty should equal reward.

gold armor affecting piglins is a visual effect, piglins react to seeing gold items, drop a clock or a lightly weighted pressure plate and they go nuts, gold shoes are enough so a decent amout of trim should have the same effect, I think minimum 3 is good but could be four if they also add elytra trim.

Spending netherite should be better than spending coal, fire and lava protection is not so unballanced compaired to using the same amount to upgrade dimand armor.

lapis could bring back enchantability as an interesting early game option

activating nearby redstone is probably a bad idea, and the other minerals are renewable so should be entirely cosmetic...

but, throwing around some partical effects for redstone armor and sound effects for amythest armor would be epic.

While I don't think the specific colors should provide buffs, I do believe the patterns should provide **MINOR** buffs. For example, the snout trim set could buff average piglin trade drops like having fortune when trading. Another could be improved water breathing for the o. monument set, maybe a second per item with trim. All of these are unaffected by the color of the trim. Pick your favorite!

The idea is that the buffs justify the rarity and steep price, encourage technical and power players to bling out more as they min/max, and provide a more substantial reward for casual players' effort while also looking cool. And while the balance is a concern, the Effort required is more than justified, as netherite is a similar change to diamond, only a buff to durability and knockback resist while also being a significant effort sink.

There are already mods that have this type of system I believe it's the netherite upgrade mod, so this is possible and would make sense. Why waste precious resources for cosmetic appearances with no gain.

I don't think buffs for leather, iron and diamond are necessary. What I mainly want is for gold-trimmed armor to stop piglins from attacking you.

I do agree with you that it should give minor buffs since wasting valuable materials for just cosmetic appearances does seem to be the best way forward. These minor buff will actually incentivize exproling your world for armor trims and using rare materials in upgrading them.

Minor buffs for adding Diamond over something like iron would be nice. Playing a single player world with no one to show off your trim to makes them kinda pointless. I have some iron leggings and they're the only armor I have right now with mending on them, so being able to make them "tougher" with diamond trims would be neat. I thought that's what the point of trim was before I looked it up, since I haven't been super caught up with Minecraft updates lately.
