I saw a youtube comment that said glowsquid ink should make the armor trim glow in the dark and I think that is a brilliant idea and would add further customization.

We need to be able to trim horse armor to go with it! Also it'd be amazing if we could add trim to our tools/weapons to match too!

    • How challenging is it to find Smithing Templates, and is it rewarding?

Some of the Templates are far too challenging and not rewarding enough. Many players will want 1 of each, as collectors, but realistically that means generating thousands of chunks, just searching for the Vex Template, which is the worst imo in terms of chance per chest, amount of chests per structure and rarity of the structure.

    • Does searching the world for Smithing Templates feel adventurous?

It feels adventurous until you get tired of searching and load up a seed finder, rendering the adventure and exploration meaningless.

    • Do the diamond requirements for copying Smithing Templates make them feel rare or special?

No. It makes it feel like a grind. Which is neither rare nor special. But is probably still the best way of making them attainable outside of finding more.

    • Does applying armor trims with the redesigned Smithing Table feel intuitive?

It's hard to know what feels intuitive when you read a blogpost about the feature and don't have to figure it out on your own.

    • How do armor trims look visually?

They look good, although some of them are incredibly similar to one another. For example Coast and Sentry on the helmet is a couple pixels of difference.

    • Are you able to be creative when combining different types of patterns on separate armor pieces?

Of course you're able to be creative with different types of patterns. But, you would usually use the same material for the trim as the rest of your gear as a highlight

Trims should have various physical/stat effects based on the item used.
    ex:

    Gold: Appeases Piglins
    Quarts: Slightly increases movement speed
    Diamond: Slightly increases armor toughness

    Amethyst: Slightly increases luck

Each piece could add a fraction of said effect, allowing you to mix and match various buffs, giving even MORE use to some items that could desperately use it.

As a purely cosmetic item the cost is too great and locating these templates is too rare. The change to creating netherite makes it not worth going after anymore. Without this change making me more powerful in the game there is no point. At first glance this was fantastic and I was excited. Then came the finding of the templates that isn’t guaranteed and the amount of diamonds required. This isn’t Hermitcraft. We all aren’t spending our entire days mining in a diamond block war.

I love the concept of Armor Trims, being able to customize armor is great and I love how it encourages people to explore and find structures. I personally love exploring the world already but there wasn't a lot of unique loot that gave me a reason to keep exploring, I liked finding Buried Treasure but I can't even use all of the Hearts of the Sea I find. But with these templates, I have a reason to explore and complete every single structure and dungeon.

I do think some of them need to be a bit more visually distinct, especially with some of the Legging and Boot Armor Trims (except for the Rib and Vex Armor Trim Designs, I think they're perfect).

For the price of copying them, I think instead of using diamonds maybe we should be able to craft or find an empty Template that we can copy the armor Template onto. If not, I think diamonds are fine, since it encourages people to explore more.

My only suggestion now is to have Trimmed Armor appear as rare loot (even more rare than the armor templates), I think that would complete the mechanic as a whole and effectively doubling the amount of loot you can find. I feel like players don't have a reason to use armor they find in structures, especially since some of them are cursed, but I feel like they would if some of them were trimmed armor, even if the trimmed armor was cursed.

Like I said, I love this new addition to Minecraft. In a single snapshot, I feel like it has already added a lot to the game. I can't wait to see what's next!

I honestly really liked these modifications that we can make to the armor, but I think we could add some effects according to the ore you gathered. For example an idea I had:

First: not all minerals can provide benefits, such as iron, amethyst, quartz, copper. These ores would be just for the look. Second, the benefits are much more effective from diamond armor, if you have an iron armor, for example, the benefit will be weaker. Third, the benefits of miners: Gold if you combine it with a piece of netherite the piglins would not be angry with you, Lapis gathering from a piece of armor above iron would increase the chances of seeing a good enchantment on the enchantment table , the Emeralds combined with a piece of armor above the iron would make the villagers lower their prices, the Redstone would make you activate the systems just by passing close to them and finally the Diamonds and Netherites would make the pieces of any armor stronger .

    Templates
    1) One time use🤔 NO!
Reusable please, then 7D if you wanted to dup them.
    2) Dye vs ores 🤔 ores make sense for adding to armour. An option of adding glow stone to get a neon look ?= gr8t.
3)Cost🤔ok I get it but 7D each time you use it will just kill this update! 7D to dup Tp's & those Tp's being re usable= ok.
A cost of 1D is enough per use please!
4)Optional enchants 2 trims🤔 YES! & yes please!..how about for the rarer harder to get TP's Eg:
Bastion Tp, Gold + 1D, you get protection from piglings etc (no need to wear or carry gold), upgrade /pay with netherite ingots & you also get added protection from said beasties?
Guardian Tp: cost= 1D + prismarine = protection against guardians, upgrade + heart of the sea to get water breathing & night vis?
    5) incl option in the smithing table 1D + ore of choice to make tools appear different, so we can identify silk touch please!🙏
    6) Netherite nerf....why!

    Summary
As it stands, this update does the opposite to making me want to explore dangerous places for a one use template!
I have real life stuff & theres no automated diamond farms yet!
But....if the template update was like above, then wow!...more creative options!
The gold enchant option alone would make me explore the nether more!
+ increased community shopping options to buy copies of the Tp's (more affordable) & those that like to gather from dangerous areas can also get a warm neighbourly feeling whilst making many diamonds duplicating the templates😆

    Going to make this quick:

    1.  Needs to apply to horse armor, (+ Netherite Horse Armor).

    2.  The armor trim templates need to be less expensive to duplicate, as I feel the current duplication method will instead discourage use of armor templates due to the expense.

    3.  Netherite upgrade templates could be just a tad less expensive to duplicate, perhaps 5 diamonds instead of 7.

    4.  Patterns look great, but special considerations need to be taken for the Programmer Art Resource pack, so that upgrading armors when using said pack doesn’t give them the newer Jappa textures under the trims.

    5.  I should also point out that some form of consideration needs to be in place for those of us with older, more widely explored worlds.

Other than that, everything looks great.  Rockatoa, Brickticks out!

If you trim an armor with a material that is lesser than the armor, it should do nothing, but if the material is greater than the armor, then it should increase armor points by a small amount.

Since there are 11 templates but only 10 trim materials and colors, the basic colors are pretty much all there, but 1 trim color is noticeably missing and it’s a pink/magenta color.

A new material like rose quartz would make this possible.

Make elytra combinable with chain armor (no actual use) for individual chest design

I honestly think it's a bad idea to make these trims SO rare and expensive to craft. Sure, some trims can be...but a simple new skin for your armour shouldn't be this difficult to obtain. It'll be the froglights problem just with the new armour skins instead.

All players armours will look the same for 99.9999% of the game...

The textures of trims should be customizable per tier of armor so that making custom armor in resource packs is easier.

There would be one folder for each tier (chainmail, iron, gold, diamond and netherite). This would prevent custom accessories added to the base layer of armor through resource packs becoming over-layered by trims.

This would also give resource pack/datapack creators even more flexibility with trims.

I love this new feature, please add this feature for tools too!

I prefer it is only cosmetic, because otherwise everyone will grind to netherite armor again and upgrade it with features instead using other armor pieces e.g. upgrading your chestplate with gold preventing piglins from attacking you makes gold armor useless again. And I like it, that there is a new reason to dig for diamonds instead buying stuff from villagers.

I loved the designs of the trims, but in my opinion this can't be complete without a creeper trim, since its the face of Minecraft. It would be awesome to have a creeper face on the back or front of the chestplate.

First of all I love the idea of customizing my armor and that some structures are now more interesting !

I like the way you can optain them and the adventureous part of it.

Using diamonds in the recipe of Smithing Templates is a good use for them and makes even sence (but you should only need 5 for the upgrade- and 3 for the trim one cause it´s purely cosmetic).

The designs are good but sometimes too similar

There also should be more materials to trim the armor like PRISMARINE, echo shards and glow inksaks(for glowing in the dark like the sign)

others: copper-trims could oxidize over time ; a FULL armor with golden SNOUT trims should avoid piglins from attacking the player ; the netherite trim shouldn`t feel "wasted" ; some coblestones in the recipes could be changed to other stone tipes like tuff, granite and andesite ; WE NEED THIS FOR THE ELYTRA ; materials that are greater than the armor itself should increase the durability/ repair it a bit

Ich finde man sollte mit einer vollen Personalisierten Rüstung mit voller Smaragd Verziehrung einen Rabatt bei Dorfbewohnern bekommen welcher aber nicht zu stark aber dennoch lohnenswert ist.

Sometimes, no matter how careful you are, you die and loose everything in Minecraft, all your tools and armor. That is part of the game. It's a painful process and a hard loss, of many hours depending on what backup supplies you have available and the set up of your world. It is, to me one of the most frustrating moments of the game, that rather than going on to build what excites me or play with friends I now have to spend hours getting replacement materials, (diamonds, levels, netherite, enchanted books, a new elytra).

The increased costs to my armor and tools do not make them feel special to me, it simply makes that already frustrating process longer and harder. Any minimal amount that it make netherite feel like a bigger moment or achievement the first time around is entirely negated by how much extra time it is going to be second time around, and the third.

Furthermore, armor templates current state punishes players on less informed servers. I certainly play on many servers with players who don't pour over the update log or know every detail of the update. That a Smithing Template needs to be copied, or even can be copied is going to be lost on a lot of people, or deemed not worth the extra expenditure of their diamonds.

Please make it so templates enter a "broken" state when used (like the elytra when it runs out of durability) and make it so they need to be repaired with diamonds when broken, instead of needing to copy it before usage if you want to keep it. This would make armour trims more feasible to use early-game and make it so people use them more often, because players won't have to worry about getting enough diamonds to copy a trim before using it. Needing to repair trims instead of copying them would also make them more valuable/rare (in the sense that there can't exist more trims than there already was in your world upon generation), because you won't be able to make as many as you like.

Armor Trims is just a gateway to more fabulous customization ideas like maybe custom designs for wielding tools, reminds me of Minecraft Dungeons Designs, to be honest. An Awesome idea really, and maybe we can do something with hide and and various types of Leather armor like from a Wolf or even Sheep Armor which gives it a furry effect, even if it gives no real perks like extra warmth in the cold.

Maybe the colors of the rib armor trim should be brighter.

What if Smithing Templates were reusable, but had a chance to break with each use. This would make them less expensive, but duplication would still be necessary to have backup smithing templates

This would also make sense. We could imagine the templates rusting and breaking down over time.

What about giving each netherite upgrade template 2 uses. They would still be harder to obtain and require diamonds but help with the complains about them being too hard. Kind of like having a durabilty of 2, each upgrade using 1.

This feature has a lot of promise. I think it has already been said, but this is the perfect opportunity to implement custom armor model support for Java edition via resource/datapack. As it stands right now you can change textures of custom armor trims but not models--please expand that functionality!

Flipside of that, I love that you can use trims to change the textures and models of other items via resource/datapack, but it doesn't seem to be linked to which trim pattern you use, only the material. Please make it so that items can be trimmed in a pattern-specific way, so that we can have a convenient way to create custom, hard-to-obtain item models, that aren't just smithable with any old trim you find laying around somewhere, and can still also have dynamic colored texture elements based on the smithing material. The datapack potential behind item trims that are only obtainable via patterns with custom crafting recipes / loot tables is almost infinite.
