I like the idea of trimming armour. But u guys need to remember that it is just a cosmetic feature and 7 diamonds to craft a template sounds crazy expensive!!! We already need to walk thousands of blocks to find them. About netherite nerf its sound ridiculous. We spend hours of mining to get some netherite and now we need to get diamonds as well. So u need to buff netherite in a immortal level because it will be made of 52 diamonds and 16 netherite scraps. When people say that they want challenge to the game we dont mean spending time on a 2x1 hole digging for hours to find somea few diamonds. This is just boring and annoying.

Maybe we could add coal for a black color or more armor trims for the igloos, mineshafts

I kind of like this feature as it can make thousands of combinations,

however, it is not reusable which needs seven diamonds to copy one Smithing Template, which is too expensive for a whole set of armor, as diamonds are quite rare in a normal Minecraft world,

so, what I suggest is that maybe make it reusable or just not use diamonds to copy one, maybe using quartz or gold or iron instead.

I play entirely single player, in first person. I think the armor trims look nice, but I will never see them in-game. The mechanic changes that go with the trims are horrible. Honestly, they're so bad I may never update Minecraft once they're introduced. It seems like these trims are aimed as cosmetic players that don't generally play long-term in any world, but the impact will mostly be negative for those of us that do develop a single world for a long time. Why?

Can we get armor trims for elytras and shields?

I like how much more challenging Netherite is to obtain now, as I personally always had plenty to encounter when looking for it. My suggestion on the armor upgrade template is to include it in both nether fortresses and bastions, but make it rarer in nether fortresses and uncommon in bastion remnants. In a mutliplayer setting, having 2 or 3 smithing upgrades in a bastion isn't very ideal when you have many players in the world, so having them in some abundance wouldn't hurt too much, while also making sure it isn't given away like candy.

Additionally, I would like to see this smithing template feature applied on tools and weapons as well, to give these tools their own unique visual flair as well.

Lastly, I would like to see some smithing templates be craftable (maybe make them unique from the ones currently implemented), but make them very limited in relation to ones found by exploring.

What if it was possible to merge these templates with the tools and leather armor? In the case of leather armor and wooden and perhaps stone tools, there would be "weaker" templates, easier to find and even craftable, but, instead of smelting with ores, do the same with dyes, giving leather armor and wood and stone tools more use. Mail armor could be the only one that can be combined with ores and dyes.

Make the diamonds added when upgrading so you don’t accidentally lose your templates, they are permanent, and use something non farmable and cheaper for the trims because it’s just cosmetic

The idea of using diamond's to copy the trims is actually good, but instead of using 7 diamonds It could use the trim in the middle, four diamonds around it and the netherack ( the block of the trim, in this case it's the netherack one) on the corners, it would also kinda match it the texture of the trim, or use this recipe for the others trims and the netherite one to use 7 diamonds, since it's a late game armor, and for nowadays it's not too hard to get it, specially with villagers ( to get the diamond piece's) i don't see why make the other trims as expensive as the netherite one, since the others are for decoration and not to upgrade the armor, but still pretty good

Players should be allowed to put the ingredients in in any order, as being forced to put the template in the smithing table first can quickly become awkward if they tends to reach for a piece of armor or certain ore first.  If the player tries to put an upgrade onto non-diamond armor, then don't allow the upgrade to be placed.

Make the rib trim a bit brighter.  It can be quite hard to see rib trims on netherite armor, even with quartz, the lightest ingredient.

Allow trims to be used on leather armor, but with dyes instead of ores and crystals.

Please allow us to add armor trims to shulker boxes. I think that would be a great way to further customize them beyond the 17 colors we currently have.

    More trim colors:

Coal, charcoal, or flint - medium/dark gray, between iron and netherite

Echo shard - sculk teal, could emit a glow as though it were dyed with glow ink

Glowstone dust - pastel yellow, could also glow

Prismarine crystals - pastel blue, could also glow

There could be set bonuses for wearing full sets of trimmed armor, for example:

All gold trimmed - piglins are no longer aggressive to you

All netherite trimmed - slight boost to defense

All emerald trimmed - villagers lower their trading prices

Please apply this to horse armor and weapons/tools.

Also please remove the enchantment glow, it's annoying and now unnecessary, and it makes trim harder to see.

The Netherite Template should be lava-proof just like Netherite tools and armor.

I really like it, overall i think is a really good mechanic, and it will give very large customization for the armor, but i think it can still improve yet so much more.

The first thing is a quality of life change, that i see in another's comments, but i wanna tell my version: i think that instead of duplicate the templates were more like items with durability, that when you find the template it have only one use, and when it hit 0 when applied to armor's it breaks similar to elytras, this to make them even more a unique item, and more like a reward to obtain them, instead of a resource that can be had in large quantities, and to repair/increase its durability would simply be the same recipe as to duplicate it recently, i think a good number for the durability would be 4.
the only downside i view to this, is that in multiplayer will be difficult for other players to get their own trim, and for that i think keeping a way to duplicate still necessary in that area

the next thing i want to suggest is more a whim of mine that I would like to see, which is the ability to put 2 trim layers to the armor, this for a color to be more noticeable, or to have more color combinations in the armor.

I hope these suggestions take it into consideration and thanks again for such a beautiful feature.

    With the current snapshot:

A full netherite armor set would cost 52 diamonds

    with trims: 80 Diamonds

netherite pickaxe: 10 Diamond (2x if you have a fortune and silk touch)

    Netherite axe: 10 Diamond

    Netherite sword: 9

    Netherite hoe: 9

    Netherite shovel: 8

making a proper netherite trimed set with the 2 pickaxes: 136 Diamonds, over two stacks of diamonds for the usual gear set up of most players. If you decide against the trim, thats still 108 diamonds.

I think this is WAY to expensive for what this brings.

If the trims had a durability (like 4 uses per template) i wouldn't mind the cost of netherite armor. I just feel like in a survival sense, if you were to die and this were to despawn or anything of that nature, id probably log out and abandon the world completely.

or if the trims were to add a buff of some sort to make the template other than something cosmetic, not that cosmetics are bad, but the in game cost seems silly for something purely cosmetic.

I dont think this is a good idea because customising your armour would just be like customising a banner. Might as well then put banners on armour.

I think that there should be a new spider/web themed trim found in mineshafts. Maybe in a new chest in the spider spawner rooms?

I think maybe the Igloo should have its own Smithing Template too, you know, the snowy biomes didn't get their own Smithing Template yet :(

You should be able to make Goat Horn trims as a reference to the cancelled Copper Goat Horns. They'd look similar to the cancelled feature but would come in different materials.
Maybe even the cancelled sounds could come as a secondary type of pattern.

    浪费!需要钻石复制品,这些复制品非常昂贵,但除了装饰外没有其他用途。

    Addressing the 6 requested questions:

    1. It is rewarding to find templates, though the spawning rates could be tweaked. The rib, snout, eye, spire, vex, ward, and wild templates should have their spawn rates increased due to the rarity of their structures.

    2. Yes

    3. The copying mechanic of armor trimming doesn't make them feel rare but incredibly tedious to obtain. While diamonds now have a late-game use, the expense of copying the templates incentivizes fewer players to actually use this feature. Just make them the armor equivalent of banner patterns.

    last 3 questions: Yes

I would like each armor trim template to have a different effect, for example: the warm template could add more speed in water, the sentry template would add more damage, etc. I'm sorry if there are any spelling mistakes, I'm Brazilian.

Please replace the purple filter on enchanted items to a cool wavy effect like lightning or any abstract animated texture similar to the vanilla tweaks unobtrusive enchant glint
