I really do like having the ability to customize armor, and having to duplicate it with diamonds in my opinion finally gives a use to not have spare diamonds laying around, however when it comes to the netherite upgrade and trim template textures, I think they more simplistic, and be more similar in style. (Coastal template, lookin at you)

While i think this is great i think there needs to be another way to obtain these upgrades because if you play on a server with a world border (wich is usually don to keep the world file limited and for preventing lag) this would mean there is only a limited supply on the upgrades and could be kept away from other players if all of then get looted by one or two players.

If the templates are to be themed after biomes, dimensions and mobs then they should simply get unique textures.

Rusty armor for nether/wither theme, scaled armor for ocean monument, barbarian animal skins for jungle, etc.

The permutations for mixing up armor pieces will be more than sufficient. This leaves open new recipes down the line should any aspect of the game become updated and new items and materials are added.

Why shouldnt a player be able to dress like a unique Illager if they schlep 12k blocks to a mansion for a template?

The vanilla RP possibilities would be insane! Clans of underwater players, Illager bandit cliques, ruling over your nether castle in pointy black armor, trekking across frozen landscapes in fur lined armor.

Each (full) set could naturally imbue you with a relevant enchant at no cost to the anvil cost. Nether Theme=Fire Prot., Ocean=Depth Strider, etc. Enchant exclusions still apply.

The implications for map makers, data packs, mods and the marketplace creators are considerable. Custom recipes, unique item quests, dungeons, boss armor sets, all possible with some small tweaks.

    And it'll look AMAZING.

I’m fine with it. Anything to grow Neather use and exploration. The neather needs love and more diversity.

Would also love The Wildfire to be added to change the difficulty. You could make them a guardian of that chest.

Echo shards as a option for trimming would be cool, don’t really have a big purpose and has a nice colour.
also glow ink would be really cool ^^

I absolutely love the new mechanics and trims. Diamonds are not too hard to come by with some grinding and makes upgrading to netherite a little harder with also requiring more adventure.

Echo shards should also be able to be used

There should be tool chains, customise tools.

While the implications of armor trims are awesome. I can't justify spending a netherite ingot on weaker armor sets just for cosmetic purposes. Have you guys thought about having special properties for the material you use in the armor trim? I think it could have benefits for the adventure side of survival. I.E. copper trim oxidizing or attracting lightning, gold trim making piglins passive, netherite reinforcing weaker armor, etc.

I haven’t tried it out yet cause I don’t have Java, but from what I’ve studied so far, it’s honestly amazing how this is now a feature in the game, and it adds onto the creative, customizable experience to the armory aspect of the game. Though I feel like some things just don’t make sense, as in the adventurous side of this feature. I love almost everything about this but at the same time I feel like if the armor trims were only for cosmetic purposes and as a player that loves survival/adventurous and customization/creative aspects in video games. The way we have to get the trims would be a bit tedious. Though I see what the devs are going for, to make us explore more of the world and actually adventure out to seek these, the percentages of the trims alongside with the rarity of these structures make them a little less worth looking for, especially the stronghold and woodland mansion ones. It’s a good thing to have players continue with playing the game and explore more in their worlds than just as far as the eye can see. It’s also gonna make players feel as if they have to do too much for these things along with the amount of diamonds we have to get to duplicate is also overwhelming with the addition of searching for these in the first place, I know this gives diamonds more use and value, but these should also atleast have like a minor buff to your armor or cool features with the types of ores you use for the armor trim, or again a minor buff to its strength and lifespan.

Let us make animated color palettes for custom materials :)

I think the "Sentry" smiting template should be duplicated with Tuff in the crafting table, not cobblestone. It matches the color more and gives a use for Tuff.

The crafting recipe is a bit too heavy on the diamonds, especially for cosmetics. Instead you could use echo shards. The name corresponds with the idea that you are duplicating the item. They're still rare so exploration is encouraged, and since multiple can be found in one place it makes it easier to make a full set of templates once you do find it.

I think that the new additions are great but expensive. To justify the price, it could be cool if the different materials had very slight buffs (ex: netherite has slight knockback resistance). These should be small enough so that people will still wear different sets, but it would be cool if there was an incentive that isn’t just cosmetic.

Alternatively, the cosmetic trims could also be non-consumable (with the exception of the netherite upgrade), so that something that is just cosmetic isn’t too annoying to get.

Another thing to note is that because netherite is more expensive, it should be buffed very slightly overall (ex: netherite pickaxe can instamine deepslate with haste 2).

Overall this system is awesome and a step in the right direction.

    1. The Smithing table is right now a little bit confusing. I think that the slots should be placed in some other kind of way. Like on the top is the new slot and under there should be the old two slots.
    2. I know its only for style but some very very small effects would make it more worth to collect them all. Some effects based on the location where you got them from. Like for jungle plus 1 heart or something diffrent.
    it should be something special!
Fullset boost would be cool too!

I think finding them is okay as is, but the diamond cost needs to be toned down, or changed to another resources that needs a use.

Armor trims look good, but as with most things should be able to have glow squid ink or glowstone used to make it glow akin to enderman or spider eyes.

The patterns themselves work okay together sometimes with different patterns on different pieces, but don't always work well together, especially considering differing brightnesses.

The rarity of the templates within structures should be changed to be proportional to the rarity of the structure and the number of chests within the structure, because the template in the jungle temple will be very difficult to get being a 4.8% chance in a rare structure with only 2 chests.

Even though it's cosmetic, I think there should be SOME use even if only a select few have them. Maybe a gold trim will pacify piglins or be enchanted easier (like normal gold armor), amethyst provides health or speed, Netherite trim provides knockback resistance or the inability to burn. I think this would make people at least consider what material to use instead of just thinking it looks nice.

There needs to be other ways of getting the nether upgrade item that isn't reliant on non-renewable loot chests. For big servers, it means that resource will be depleted quickly, leaving newer players with no chance at ever getting netherite gear. And relying on the kindness of other players in public servers to duplicate the upgrades for you isn't a guarantee, or even likely.

The same things with the trim items, as it is currently, they are more of a grandfather status exclusive to only the oldest players on the server, as the newer players have no chance of obtaining any armor trims. This is less of an issue for the trims though, since they are purely cosmetic.

I think the new "Smithing Template: Netherite Upgrade" should look more molten and feel more like an artifact than have a literal upgrade symbol on it. Nothing else in the game breaks the 4th wall like that so It would be cooler if it looked molten and some diamonds or netherite mixed in the texture.

    More material options.
Currently, options are ludicrously expensive. Netherite Trim especially.
Perhaps a better option would be, for example, Netherite Scraps being used to make the trim.
Also would be great to see things like Blackstone for a blacker trim, or even Coal if you wanna go that route.
It just should be things that are more easily obtained on my opinion. Especially, ESPECIALLY nerfing the netherite cost.

I think the armor trim templates should be reduced to like 5 or 3 diamonds since they are for cosmetics, while the netherite upgrade stays at 7 diamonds. I also think you should be able to craft a chainmail upgrade template that you use iron on leather armor. This would give chainmail armor a recipe and teach new players about smithing templates early game.

    My response to the questions.

    1. Unsure but I think the spawn rate is good.

    2.  Yes.

    3. No. I think the amount of diamonds needed should be reduced. Theses are cosmetic items so they don't need to be so expensive.

    4. Totally.

    5. Some look good some look weird.

    6. Of course.

    My ideas.

I think Echo shards should be used to make a dark blue color.

If I have to spend 7 diamonds every time I apply a pattern it becomes a bit difficult to be creative with them. There is a lot of trial and error involved in this in order to achieve a good combination.

The UI on the smithing table definitely needs to be a bit more clear. The animations are a good way of explaining where everything goes but I feel as though the template box should be separated from the other boxes.

Other than that I love them and I hope this means that there will be a similar focus on exploring and unique uses for biomes in the future.

I really REALLY want to be able to layer trims on top of the same piece of equipment, like designs on a banner. I think it would be really a cool and the possible combinations would really feel endless!
