The basic armor trim tablets seem too rare and expensive. I'd probably never use them early-game in this state, which is kind of heartbreaking. It would be so disappointing to find one in a jungle temple just to hold onto it for 48 hours until you have some decent gear. Or else, a new player might use one of the rarest items in the game on their iron armor just to never see one again.

My suggestion would be to add a durability meter similar to the Elytra's to the tablets. Maybe you can use it 4 times and then it becomes a paperweight until you can repair it with biome-appropriate materials. Some sandstone for the desert temple tablet? Or some purpur blocks for the end city one? This way there's still a tradeoff for when you choose to apply a new trim to your armor, but it isn't such a hefty investment just to have cool cosmetics. I think if this idea were implemented, it could justify the current expensive cost to copy a tablet.

I think the templates in structures that don’t have a lot of chests and/or are super rare (e.g. jungle temples, woodland mansions, pillager outposts) could use some rebalancing so that the chance of finding a template in a structure is roughly the same when compared to other structures, rather than the odds being based on chests.

I’m in favor of making armor trimming expensive (and therefore special), but given they don’t have any sort of gameplay benefit like the netherite upgrade, I think their duplication recipes could be a bit cheaper. Maybe four diamonds with two on each side, or five in the shape of the hopper recipe. Seven is just a bit much for some flexing.

Horse armor trims. It’s a glaring hole in the feature.

I love the idea of using ingots and crystals for coloring, but requiring a whole netherite ingot for black is just prohibitively expensive. Aside from diamonds, all the other materials are renewable and very easy to acquire late-game. I think coal should be used instead. It’s not an ingot or crystal, but it’s still in that family of minable materials and would keep people from having to spend as much on dying an armor set as they would to make a netherite armor set.

I disagree with those who suggest that armor with golden trim pacify piglins, as that would ruin the whole point of the piglin-gold mechanic, namely to make players think about what armor they wear rather than just getting the perfect set that they can wear anywhere.

Hi, in the first place, sorry for my poor english, but i must write down this thing just to thanks the group for the work they've done, its an amazing content to the game and is something done with so much dedication and love. You are going in the right way!.
That said, I will begin by pointing out the dificculty of obtaining this items, they're rare, even you can loot an structure and dont find them, and thats a great form to promote adventuring for loot, but they are some structures so hard to find, like the jungle temple and mansions. There are 3 forms to solve this, 1 is changing the chance to find one trim in one structure, 2 is making de crafting copy less expensive, and 3, the one i like the most, creating more structures in general, so there will be more easy to find trims.
I'know that this will not be easy to do in this future update, but its okay!, the trims being hard to find just make more laborious the form to be full trimed with the same trim, but not with 4 differents trims, that's promote the variation and creativity to use different styles.
I like the new system of the smithing table, feel intuitive and look good, but its difficult to get used to put the trim or upgrade first and not the armor.
I think that this open the door for more customizable things like tools and weapons, and sorry if its like i'm requesting something but you can even give the fletching table an use by giving it the same mechanic of the smithing but with bows and woods.

I really liked it! It feels great to be able to have another reason for exploring the world.

One of my suggestion is to add another trim that doesn’t give you an esthetic change, but something like an enchantment. Imagine going to the Bastion to find an “magic” upgrade, like the Netherite one, which has 3% chances of spawning, that allows you to be fire resistant. It would not be easy to find, but the reward is worth it.

Elitras and tools should have both esthetic and “magic” trims.

Other thing I would like to see is something I saw on Reddit, where an user made a datapack that allowed him to use a carrot as a “color”, like redstone or gold. Easter eggs like this are great!

The diamond craft is awesome. Now I have a good use for it!!!

Maybe trims are a good element for beacons!

Finally, I’d like to thank you for all the thing you are working on. I hope to see more feature like this in te future!

i think piglins should have a rare chance to give you the smithing template through bartering(maybe as rare as the old netherite hoe). this could give the option to players who want netherite but dont want to expand their world size just to find a bastion, and players who play a flat world will not be able to obtain netherite after this update.

Love it, and i think it opens the door for further customisation options. For example additional base armour textures (like chestplate with gauntlets, helmet with a faceplate, higher boots or battle skirt instead of leggings)

I think for how expensive these are, they end up enforcing the current issue with armor durability where you're basically forced to grind out villager trades for mending to keep your personalized armor set. I think it would be extremely beneficial if repair costs with anvils were reworked to no longer increase every time you repaired an item, allowing you to repair an item indefinitely since it wouldn't become too expensive after a couple repairs to enchanted items. This would allow the player to be able to maintain their personalized armor without having to get mending, at the cost of more exp and repair materials spent. I think it would be a fair tradeoff and a good way to offer an alternative method for endgame armor maintenance for people who dont like having to trade with villagers.

Add some more rare versions of the armor trims. These could be obtained by mobs in a similar way to getting music discs. Maybe you get one mob to kill a other certain mob, it can drop a smithing template that has an animated design or puts flames on your armor. This would make using them more desirable as the cooler ones would take some time to get.

The designs of the trims are overall pretty good. I think a trim with a cracked appearance would be quite popular too.

Allow armor trims to be used on leather armor. Instead of using materials like diamonds or iron, the leather armor would use dye to apply a trim.

The armor stand in the new Smithing Table UI should be able to be rotated with the mouse to see the back of the armor

Add a small chance that a wandering trader could have an armor trim for the ones obtained in the overworld. Make it super rare so that people can still have the chance to find them without alot of exploring. Also add the ones in the nether as a rare drop from piglin bartering.

This is a great addition for creativity. My suggestion would be to make the tablets craftable out of clay plus the unique block corresponding to the trim. This way clay has an additional use that mirrors a real world use, and players who have already explored large swaths of their worlds will be able to obtain them without traveling tens of thousands of blocks for new chests.

I recommend a special Trim for Leather Armour that covers up the undyed sections since leather is somewhat lacking. The main reason to use leather was because it was the only customisable armour but now it simply falls behind once again. Additionally, I think it'd be neat if the Snout Trim put a Piglin belt buckle on the leggings.

    1) The simbol on the chestplate from the "Dune Trim" is better in the Outpost Trim (Sentinel Trim), because that is the Illager simbol. In the Dune Trim may be the "Anj" or a creeper Face

    2) Wandering Traders May sell a "Wandering Armor Trim"

The step to transmutations must be taken! I want to be able to sport gold/iron armor with different patterns and colors, without losing the stats of my diamond/netherite armor.

Mojang,a good idea would be to decorate armor with also the echi shard,to give it another use and would be Great also becouse could give a really nice colore, maybe also use the glow ink wouldn't be bad

Rather than patterns being consumables, I think they should have a durability-- maybe 3 or so uses-- and they become unusable until repaired with the current duplication recipe.

I like the existence of the diamond cost to keep the patterns, but at 7 diamonds per piece, early game players are rarely going to use the feature, and definitely won't use it on any armor other than diamond.

I think it's a great addition, but the only thing that bothers me is the fact that there's an armorstand inside the smithing table. In my opinion, it would be better if the armor would be alone centered where the armorstand is when crafted, with some sort of GUI background. +The one in the smithing table has arms while the normal ones (on Java) doesn't.

Would be cool if you could do it with swords and when armor is enchanted the trim has an animation like magma blocks or you add glowstone to it and it adds the animation

    • How challenging is it to find Smithing Templates, and is it rewarding?

While I think it's very challenging for new worlds or current (new worlds you are new to the worlds so you need new gear and etc... current worlds It might be difficult to find all the same structures again) it's very rewarding to show off.

    • Does searching the world for Smithing Templates feel adventurous?

    100% Y E S

    • Do the diamond requirements for copying Smithing Templates make them feel rare or special?

I feel like its too expensive. Its weird to me that it requires 7 diamonds (equivalent to 1 leggings) i think less diamonds would be cool OR having it so the templates don't vanish from your inventory but rather be unusable until you repair it like the elytra.

if you decide to keep the current way of copying templates at least tell the players that It has one use available when you hover over it

    • Does applying armor trims with the redesigned Smithing Table feel intuitive?

feels like it has been in the game forever.

    • How do armor trims look visually?

great. Love that the enchanted glow is toned down to see it.

    • Are you able to be creative when combining different types of patterns on separate armor pieces?

There are so many options it's fantastic, this will change the look of Minecraft for the better forever. Fantastic job!

Every single basic colour exists as trim except pink. It would be lovely to see consideration/inclusiveness of all the young girly gamers out there by adding it! Using red+white or something new

The contrast on the colours should really be cleaned up, at least for netherite. Some trims are way too dark all over, (rib template, the eye of the eye template) while others are way too bright and feel out of place. (vex template) The 'light source' influencing the value of the trims should be consistent with eachother and follow the contour of the armour texture, so to speak. I don't just mean "make them darker" or "make them brighter," I mean the places on the trim that reflect light are inconsistent between templates.
I think this ultimately boils down to the fact that netherite armour's texture is more 3-dimensional than the rest. This could be a good opportunity to update the textures for the other armour sets to be less flat and match netherite aesthetically.

i think the diamond is a bit to expensive if your trying to upgrade lower teir armor, maybe change it to the respective armor your upgrading it too, Iton for iron armor.

What also would be cool if armor villagers sold some trims, maybe new ones. maybe even different depending on what biom the villager is specific for, so it is yet anothing thing you have to explore to unlock, Could be a harder trade, so you havve to work for it.

I must say I love the new armour trims but there are a few things that could do with a tweak. 1, they are a tad rare at the moment as I visited 5 woodland mansions and didn't find one Vex pattern. 2, It'd be great if they could also be applied to horse armour and 3, it'd be cool if there was a simple generic pattern that was craftable with say diamonds (a 2x3 of diamonds in a crafter let's say) that's very simple that shows casual players what they are so they know what do do when they find a rare one and don't just use it up over duplicating.

I really don't like that duplication thing doesn't make sense no value for that item after u got 1 since we can duplicate let me clarify something mining diamonds are too easy after 1.18 updates people complaining abt diamonds are hard to get make it cheaper are actually lazy people it is waay to easy to get diamonds (+no one really mine diamonds for armors now everyone uses villagers for diamond armours and tools it's just waay to easy people complaining abt expensive recipe probably don't know about this  donot make it cheaper) please consider changing that duplication thing and not regarding this update i saw a video abt sniffer it's is waaaaay to big consider making it more suitable to minecraft . 1.20 is like mod update or something doesn't feel natural
Please consider optimising textures  and other stuff anyways I love these concepts but doesn't look natural pls fix 💔

I totally like how these are hard to obtain as these stuff should be an integral part of the late game. Although it doesn't add any bonus attributes, it still makes the item more expensive due to the fact that the materials used to craft it are rare items to find. Come on guys, you're all complaining about how expensive a cosmetic is? When you all can still have a netherite armor for the same amount of protection points? Leave this thing alone so that late game could be more achieving like trying to obtain all the templates. I mean, I would've complain if duplicating a template isn't a thing but the fact that it is, makes this actually accessible to everyone.
