Very excited for this new feature! My one piece of feedback is that I feel like the rib trim is supposed to look cool but it kinda looks too stripy and perhaps a bit too dim.

i love them, only thing is that i would like to see a tool trim, and applying armor trims of the same materials (like diamond on diamond)

I would like to see more color options.

    • Charcoal for a dark gray color (lighter than Netherite)
    • Turtle Scute for a darker green color (darker than Emerald)
    • Purpur for a magenta color

The other missing ones that I can't think of good items for are Brown (leather is bad for this no), and bright Pink (don't want to use dyes, that's cheating).

I would also like to see Villagers and Wandering Traders each get a trim of their own. Currently, Wandering Traders feel very useless except for Superflat Survival, which is a very tiny niche. Having a pattern related to them that they can trade would be amazing.

And Hero of the Village could enable a temporary trade with Armor Smith Villagers that lets them sell a unique Villager or Iron Golem related trim. The Iron Golem one is the most interesting to me- could be 'flower' patterns down the side, like them have on them.

I think it'd be great to have another gem for an armor trim effect, mainly echo shard applying a glow to the trim, so that in darkness players would be able to see the glow of it, just like glow squids are visible in complete darkness. Additionally, this would motivate players to explore the world more and to look for an ancient city to find such shards to apply a visually exciting glow to their armor. It would fit greatly in the exploration update (assuming that's what the update is about, from the updates so far) as there isn't much incentive to find an ancient city yet, the glint/glow will add this incentive, and I know that I would go through the trouble with the warden to find the echo shard for a glowing armor trim!!

When the update comes out,am I not going to have access to the Stronghold trim if I've already been to the stronghold in my world?

Honestly there should be new trims for glowstone dust, prismarine and ender pearls

Plus it would be great if wandering traders can sell them which would give them a better use that just being free leads

Absolutely love the trims, only one small thing. I think trims should be reuseable and craftable, to make them a bit less rare / expensive. You could keep the same recipe used to dupe it, but have a certain item be in the place of the trim item.
ex: Tide trim being crafted like this
    D Sn D
    D Cb D
    D  D  D
D- Diamond, Sn- Sand, Cb- Cobblestone

This new system is amazing! I have some points of feedback I wanted to share:
    1) As some people commented before, some trims could also use the detail layer on the texture, making them pop out more. This could also make armor trims being usable on the same material, as they'd still clearly appear.
    2) This should be applicable to horse armor! Horses have not been getting a lot of love for a while now, with their breeding still broken (almost impossible to make a perfect horse without it spawning naturally, disencouranging breeding in favor of searching).
Something as simple as armor trims for them would revive some interest! Could also be an opportunity to have Netherite horse armor!
    3) Some other special trims would be nice! Stuff like coal and prismarine would make for some banger trims, and they also fit the ore theme! If you are willing to give up a bit of consistency for visuals though, you could even go as far as allowing magma block and crying obsidian trims!

Amazing feature! Some small tweaks I would consider-

    -Slightly cheaper to duplicate

-Move some textures up on the chestplate- looks weird to decorate the belly of the player

-Add prismarine crystal color to the table

-(out-there suggestions) Change enchantment effect on armors; allow for customization of enchantment aura; add weapon color customization.

Duplicating trims is pretty expensive. Instead of changing the recipe tho I'd suggest to make it give you 4 trims instead of 2 so you have enough to trim a whole set of armor. Netherite is ok. Overall this is an amazing update and makes exploration much more rewarding.

Some of us might not be able to get the strongholds trims. Every other trim will spawn at a structure that is infinitely spawning in the world, but strong hold have a 128 which all might have been explored or loaded in our world already. If there isn’t any real reason not too I’d like stronghold to just generate indefinitely instead of having a final circle. It would allow us to get the trim if we aren’t able to and give players with worlds out stretching thousands or millions of blocks an easier way back to spawn.

certainly should increase armor protection after adding a new ore to it, and I think that could happen with swords too, and even add new melee weapons

As a perk for going through the danger of getting trimmed armor, the XP cost of repairing and enchanting trimmed armor should be half as expensive as non-trimmed armor. This would allow the player more time to find and apply mending to their favorite trims before the dreaded "Too Expensive" message is displayed when using the anvil.

Armor trims duplications are way too expensive. I get that these recipes are this way to make diamonds more useful but for something that is purely cosmetic and even can be applied to iron armor it shouldn’t be this costly. It essentially becomes a late game item, maybe just one diamond per duplicate would be ok. I think some people like that is rare and requires effort to get them but I think there are plenty of players that can’t be on Minecraft frequently because of school, work or even other games or hobbies. Please keep in mind this since there are many of us who can’t be playing all the time and some trims already demonstrate what players are the ones putting more effort on the game like the ones found in ancient cities and bastion remnants. I don’t think making them more accessible to duplicate and less time consuming would make it less fun, quite the opposite: I think more people get to enjoy this new fantastic feature if done this way

I think adding a toggle to turn enchantment glint off completely would help show off the trims even more.

The Netherite Ingot is very expensive for customization. Could you replace it by Netherite Scrap ?

For Singleplayer, I feel the Smithing Templates are too common. For Multiplayer, they will more than likely become a rare item. Does being able to copy them do make sense. However, the Diamonds in the recipe does not make them feel very special. Diamonds already have their place as currency on servers, so what about giving more purpose to an item that seems magical, I'd say Amethyst, but what about Echo Shards?

Searching for these Smithing Templates is a fun adventure! I have already found 7 of them.

When putting items into the Smithing Table, you can't add the Ingridient or Armour before the Template. Which makes it feel less intuitive. Maybe disable those slots visually or allow for any item to go in as per normal?

The only Trim I did not see fit with the others was the Rib Armor Trim. Not because it looked bad, just that the shade of the color did not match the others. It looked darker. However, I still want to keep it! Could we perhaps have another decor item that has this dark color?

This feature is amazing, and I feel very creative with it. Also feel gold trim should prevent Piglins from chasing you.

Would love to see this apply to Leather Armor and Dyed Leather Armor as well as Horse Armour including Leather and Dyed Leather. Perhaps even Shulker Boxes, Tools, Weapons as well.

I think everything about duplicating item trims is fine, my one gripe is that most armor trims don’t have many designs on the backs of the armor. Also, using glow ink or glowstone to make trimmed pixels glow would be absolutely amazing, i don’t care how expensive you guys could make that feature, I would explore the entire world to get a full set of glow-accented armor. Thanks!

I for one feel that this is one of the best and most creative additions to the game in some time!, only 2 suggestions, one being a change and the other being an addition

Change - the sprites of the templates look, off? in a way, and I much prefer the look of the netherite upgrade template look, maybe that look, or something that resembles scrap could be a better look

Addition - giving uses to loot items that dont have many already would be wonderful! instead of only cave found materials for the trims, things like glow ink sacs or echo shards, so the trim "glows" like how glow squids and ender eyes do would be awesome! and with echo shards, a pseudo "skulk armor: set could be possible!

Using the smithing table to apply upgrades/trims is intuitive, but I dislike the method of duplicating these templates. Perhaps a repairable "broken" or "used" state of each of the templates, similarly to the elytra, would prevent accidental losses of them.

I like the idea that instead of vanishing on use, the templates have a broken state similar to elytra. The repair cost could just be the same as the duplication cost. That way instead of duplicating indefinitely, the templates would maintain their scarcity on servers and you wouldn’t run the risk of accidentally using your last one.

This idea might be out of scope, but I think It would be really cool to give a full sets of armor trims some uses if you manage to make different sets of armors. It would give each set something different functionality wise and it would incentivize me to go out and craft these sets. It doesn’t have to be exactly these ideas but some to go off of could include

A Set Of Trimed Redstone Armor: Could give off a redstone signal when walked over redstone on the ground or walls, cool for secret doors and such

A Full Set Of Trimed Gold Armor: Piglin Brutes will ignore the players

A Full Set Of Trimed Lapis Armor: Wouldn’t need to use Lapis when using an Enchanting Table

A Full Set Of Trimed Emerald Armor: Causes Villager trading to be slight cheaper

(Would have to be wearing the set)

I feel that maybe the current recipe for smithing templates is perhaps too expensive for some, especially since it’s a cosmetic item that provides no gameplay benefits, which is good that it doesn’t, I’d rather much prefer that it’s just cosmetic but the current recipe to make more is a tad too much. I just don’t see the value for it to just grant cosmetic value. Especially when it comes to players who want an easy and chill experience, find a template, make more and easily deck themselves out in their sense of fashion. I feel like the reward and value comes with having to find them in their respective structures, especially since some are rarer than others, once a player finds them, they should be able to feel like “yes! Now I can decorate my armor” instead of “neat, now I just need loads more diamonds” some ppl say it’s good that it’s expensive because some ppl have loads of diamonds around, but if there were a feature to fill in the gap of using diamonds, I think it’d rather be something other than simple and fun cosmetic parts. People even say that smithing templates are late game items, which I have to disagree, I feel like almost anything you do in Minecraft is within the players choice, so coming across the templates shouldn’t have to feel late game at all; so I propose a new crafting recipe. Template at the top, 1 diamond in the middle, and 7 of the respective blocks all the way around. This should hopefully still have value while also having some fun.

i think it would be nice if the player could change the color of the armor trim without having to find another Smithing Template of the same style

With all the materials, templates, and armors the player would have to keep in their inventory when using the smithing table, it would be nice if the table had some form of storage or allowed the player to access a storage block adjacent to it.

Would be cool having a trim that lets the trim in your armor glow, like glowing item frames / signs, it could use glow ink, amethyst, echo shards (would be cool have a trim with echo shards), etc.
