My only regret is that there's no way to use dyes. I'd love to use pink dye since I love the color pink but there's no pink minerals.

I find that the duplication recipe for the "Trim" smithing template is a little too expensive. 7 diamonds? For a cosmetic and completely optional feature? 4 diamonds seems much more reasonable to me (maybe even less). At the very least, the recipe of "Trim" smithing template needs to be revised to be more affordable (I also suggest to replace the removed diamond by the "target block" of the recipe).

Attention, I speak only about "Trim" recipe. The recipe for the "Netherite Upgrading" smithing template is him a perfectly valid and balanced cost.

    I have a few questions:

    • What if there was an ultra rare variant that allowed the user to utilize a loom to create a custom trim?
    • Perhaps glow squid ink could be added to make the trim glow?
    • Overall, trims feel "fair" in their rarity and use.

I'm not a fan of every trim, but there's something there for everyone.

It would be a nice addition if the trims also could be applied to gold and diamond horse armor and elytra's (if technically possible). Echo shards and Glow Ink should be able to interact with the trims in addition to the current materials. With Echo shards adding a sculk band of the chosen template design to the armor and with the Glow Ink adding a glowing effect based on the chosen material, ex: a gold armor trim with glow ink added would 'glow' in a gold hue (using the same texture effects as the enderman and glow-squid where they appear as glowing but do not emit light.).

I think being able to layer patterns like you can with banner patterns would be neat, and would add more personality to it, as well as add more creativity! maybe right clicking a trimmed armor on a cauldron filled with lava could remove a trim layer, the same way water in a cauldron does with a banner. I also think that having the trim type themselves being NBT driven could solve the whole duplication thing as well like for example, with it being NBT driven you can have a new (which would replace the template items) item called "Blank Template" and with it being NBT driven you can add new Trim items for your new Trims via datapacks Which would be very useful! cause as is right now, to add a new trim pattern you need to use an item that can be found in survival/a command only item which could be used in an unintended way

so, to summarize, I think the Smithing Template type should be NBT driven It'll allow for so much more creativity via datapacks & resourcepacks. having a generic "smithing template" item would, imo, fix the whole duplication crafting situation, you could possibly get these generic smithing templates from the smithing villager, or from piglin bartering so it's renewable...

I think it’d be better to put the dune trim in the desert well. That would give a currently useless structure some use

Make wandering traders actually useful by putting templates as things they have a chance trading. It makes sense because wandering traders go around the world exploring and they are likely to find these templates and trade them. This would also help slightly with the cost of duplicating the templates.

Everything seems incredible to me, a very good idea! but there is something that worries me, it does not seem profitable to me to use a netherite ingot for a simple decoration, it would be great if putting netherite in a gold/diamond/iron/chain armor would be better than a common armor, I don't know what If it protects a little more it would be great...

Could prismarine crystal be one of the possible colours for it? Maybe something similar to cyan. And maybe netherite scrap for brown?

I like the armor trims! I have a few thoughts:

    • A few people have mentioned that the current recipe for duplicating trims is too expensive. I think I agree--it costs almost as much as a diamond chestplate just to recreate a single trim. One possible way to offset this would be to make it possible for smithing villagers to recreate specific trims as a trading recipe.
    • I think the trims would look really good on leather armor and would love to see that added to the game. Alternatively, it would be cool if we could overlay a material onto an armor to change the base color of the armor. That way we could overlay leather or gold onto diamond armor without losing the protection benefits.
    • I hope the trims give us functional upgrade options in the future! While I really love the cosmetic upgrades, it would be cool to add additional functions to armor as well. Some ideas include torch helmets, elytra chestplates, or slime boots. These could be crafted with a smithing template and the appropriate item and give armor permanent effects.

I agree with another person in the sense of using glow squid ink for armor trims. Glowing armor would be so cool. Plus, you could play a pretty sick game of laser tag

I really like the upgrades now! It makes me wish it had been like this when netherite initially came out so i didn't have to adjust, but i rly love this concept. It makes netherite feel more valuable. I also love the duplication for the templates as that lets me have another use for my diamonds and doesn't exhaust my exploring efforts.
Honestly, no complaints other than maybe rly wanting to see dungeon spawners getting an update with special loot too. I love all the value these templates add to structures, and I'd love for one of our oldest structures to get some more love

Amazing cosmetic feature. Would love to see more of a benefit, but I'm also thankful for what this is no matter what.

There were a couple trims i was disappointed not to have. Such as glowstone powder, echo shards, and dragon's breath. Dragon's breath could possibly have an animated white and purple pulsing to it, and maybe would add some room for fun cosmetic creativity

As a resource pack author, we need the ability to customize trims PER armor type. One texture per armor trim, per armor type. Not sure if this is possible yet!

I really like the customization options this brings out, but what if we could also customize our tools and weapons also? It would give more options of personalization to every players armour combo's and such. Maybe also add some customization to elytra and shields as well?

The Smithing Templates just add innovatory clutter trim would be better if it was rare items from a region like…the Pug Step album to apply the snout trim and the nautilus shell or heart of the sea for the coast trim and a block of emerald gold diamond copper or lapis to apply there trims also the smithing table isn’t very intuitive with the new trim maybe more spacing between the slots and the armor should always be the first slot the ovject to be upgraded the second slot and the pattern the third slot thank you for your time

7 dimonds is too expensive. If its too expensive No one is ever going to trim iron or gold armor. If it is purely cosmetic, I don't see why you would want to make ut an endgame item. It also makes Nethrite armor too expensive, there are already a lot of players who don't upgrade because of the hassle of finding ancien debris when Netherite is not that much better than dimond. I get it is for the flex, but it's only going to make less people want to use Netherite armor/tools. One thing that could make it worth the 7 diamonds is if the trim design/material added secondary effects. Just dont require that the effects require a full matching set because that would reduce the number of viable combinations.

I think echo shards should be able to be used. It gives echo shards more than one purpose and you can make the armor have an animated texture for its trim. I think it would look very nice. Other potential materials could be sea lantern shards. This could provide a luminescent texture for the trim which would also be very nice.

One suggestion I would have would be for datapacks.

This would be a good opportunity to add CustomModelData for armor & tools, as well as the ability to use items with CustomModelData in crafting recipes.

They are super neat, but it would be even cooler if they had a function (even if small) for example giving more armor/durability/speed/or other ideas (this way a nice golden armor which has Ben trimed with netherite can be used, else it would be pointless)

In my opinion, I think there are too many template icons.

It's really creative that you have to go to a ton of different structures to get them, but adding too many items to the game makes it quite busy.

I enjoy how they handled the banner patterns and the firework rockets, and maybe it could be cool to use existing items to add trims to armor, kind of like Stardewvalley.

But the Mojang devs have done a great job and it's a very cool idea that should only receive praise!

I think it is currently sitting in the perfect spot for late game rewards, price, time, and effort. However if it is meant to be used more throughout gameplay then I think its a bit too much. I prefer the late game reward all that being said. I really like the idea that a year from now I could find one of these in my world and get excited.  a lot of loot late game is just not exciting and I think this is great. Perhaps some of the loot table percentages could change. For example the elder gaurdian drop should probably be 30%  so that the reward is given when you take on a underwater monument and kill all 3 of the elder gaurdians its more likely you get the reward.
    Some suggestions rather than feedback
    -Horse Armor Trim
-Echo Shard as a Trim Material, adding more value to them and again increasing player interaction with the deep dark
    -Tool Customization
-Other trims for structures that were not included, totally grateful for what we have and we would like more

I’m concerned about their rarity on multiplayer servers, a greedy player could nab them all first and not be willing to share any clones, even if they’re made repairable like another user suggested in a previous comment. They also seem a bit too rare in general.

I think an alternate way to grab them could be as rare loot from mobs, i.e. dune templates as rare drops from husks, or rib templates from wither skeletons (on top of their current loot, so other rare drops like skulls aren’t interfered with; maybe rib templates could drop more commonly from the Wither, too). A new way for players to respawn Elder Guardians (no natural respawn) could be introduced as well.

I know this could be grindy and tedious though, so I’m not completely sure about it, but the current method of obtaining them seems tedious too if you’re unlucky (just grind exploration time far away from your home instead of mob drops), and as mob drops they’re at least more renewable. Perhaps their loot chances could be increased a bit, at least.

Aside from that, I think they’re all pretty cool!

The insane diamond requirements I like for netherite, because that makes it feel more rare, but locking a cosmetic change behind a huge amount of diamonds is really bad. I personally would just change the recipe to make it actually look like the templates, with 1 diamond in the center and the respective block around it.

Not sure if this is coming but I would love to see a villager and wandering trader sell these

really cool, maybe add a function where you can make the trims glow (emissive) by adding glow ink to them after the fact

I think it would be nice if either gold trim or the pattern found in the bastions could pacify the piglins like gold armor removing the need to swap down to gold in the late game

Although I really like the update, the cost and rarity of the smithing templates feels very bad for casual players. Having done some looking around myself, the templates seem way too rare in structures especially considering they only have a cosmetic purpose.

The chance of them in chests should really be bumped up a lot or have a single one guaranteed in more structures than just the treasure room bastion. Something that purely makes the player look cool shouldn't be this dependent on RNG initially.

The cost for duplicating all templates seems too high as well and the reasons for the netherite upgrades being harder to obtain don't really make a lot of sense to me. You can easily beat the game in diamond armour so I don't see why netherite has to be a more significant milestone (and more dependent on RNG and more of a chore). I'd probably want it to cost maybe 3 or 4 diamonds per duplication, or maybe use a different material. Maybe the echo shards would work since they already have some use in duplicating things. Or perhaps the templates could have a durability of 3 or something.

That being said I really like the redesigned smithing table and the trims themselves are great too.

One other suggestion I have is that the enchantment glint could have a client-side option in the options menu for its strength like the darkness effect slider.

    Pls devs read
1Armor trims look pretty cool and fresh

2Requirements for copying them seems fine and gives diamonds the relevance needed(although it could be changed to 4 diamonds only(template in the middle))

3Finding templates in different structures its a great idea and adition to the overall aventure experience in Minecraft

4 I think the trims should have more uses in the game for example: trims with gold should make pigmans friendly like normal gold armor, trims with redstone should make a tiny redstone signal depending on how many trims you have with redstone( not all the trims should have special habilities but atleast those 2 should have it) (or amathyst trims on the boots make the boots sound like if you were walking on the block itself)

5 Trims of the same armor material needs to be a thing

6 It could also be a great idea to add "glow" effect from the glowing squid sacks (obviously not light entities, but more like enderman eyes or the signs effect)(this effect could be added with the shards of the deep cities)

7 i would like to see more color options for trims like pink, orange,

8 And the think its only a wish but it would be awesome:::: tools should also have trims(with the same templates of armor obsly)

It would be cool to see a pickaxe or sword with the cool trims

    9 Elytra trims maybe?????
