Say you're flying around on your Elytra as you search for abandoned archeology camps shown at Minecraft Live. Suddenly, a glimpse of Stone Brick catches your eye. Almost immediately, you dive down to the spot. This camp is the largest you've ever seen! You estimate there must be hundreds of dirt ready to be dug out. But that takes hours of brushing, and you're not ready to do that by hand. That's why you've brought your Copper Sifter.
Now, it's already proven that Netherite is magnetic. Why else would compasses link to Lodestones made of the stuff? The Copper Sifter would harness this property, and use it to sort out metal Archeology items from the other dirt. It would be crafted with a Netherite Ingot in the middle, Iron Bars as sifters on the top and bottom, and 6 Copper Blocks on the sides.
Special Dirt from an Archeology camp (as revealed in Minecraft Live) could be placed on top as the Sifter sorted the metal from dirt. Since the machine can never have the precision of a brush by hand, the loot would be significantly worse.
Another mechanic would be that every once in a while (0.3% each block) the Sifter would be clogged from all the dirt. The only way to dislodge the stuff from the machine would be to get a Goat to ram it, making the machine drop 3-5 Dirt at its bottom face.
