Blackboards and chalk would be an additional alternative to signs and the new hanging signs. A blackboard would be constructed from the un-cobbled deepslate blocks, or possibly from polished deepslate. Each item would cover one full face of a block and have no border between it and adjacent blackboards, similar to the way maps display. By using a piece of chalk crafted from calcite (unless an actual chalk block is added) players can write messages on the blackboard, essentially the same as with signs, but perhaps with additional rows available because of the extra space. Characters can clear the message by clicking "use" with an empty hand, or perhaps also with wool or carpet. Doing so results in a smudged blackboard, which can then have a new message written. Clicking use with a wet sponge on a smudged blackboard and/or one with text results in a clean blackboard again. Each piece of chalk would be good for a single message, and could optionally be colored with dye (or else dye can be used on the text as with regular signs).
