I have already found similar ideas, but I have a slightly different version, so I decided to state it in a separate comment.
My idea is that when burned, blocks of logs give charcoal. This is so that you can spawn campfire at the start of survival by having flint and steel, fire charge or lava nearby. This idea came to me when I thought to create a camp with campfire at the beginning of survival. But in order to create a campfire, you must either mine coal or mine a furnace, even if you have flint and steel. Therefore, in order to add an interesting detail to the game and a little atmosphere, both the creation of a campfire and such an event as a fire, I propose to implement this idea.
Regarding the balance, I have already thought about everything, but you can always check. In the mass production of charcoal, the furnace still wins. When setting fire to trees for mass loot, players will lose saplings and some of the charcoal, as the leaves will burn and some of the resulting charcoal will fall into the fire. It is worth mentioning that the charcoal that does not burn must be collected before it disappears. In addition, I conducted experiments, conducting them 10 times. Logs burn faster in a fire than in a furnace only three times out of ten. At the same time, I gave the fire a head start, setting fire to the logs first. Therefore, my conclusion: the balance will not suffer.
With respect and hope that my idea will be realized,
NuarNeko.
