Weather is one of those massively bare-bones features that, for whatever reason, hasn't been given much thought by most players.
In the modding space, we've seen a few mods that shake things up - Weather2, Better Weather, the list ends there.
Getting back to base game, we've got 3 states and a means of masking where loaded chunks end.
What if we had something more robust?
Instead of a simple on/off for precipitation, have a value for its intensity - is it drizzling, torrential, somewhere in between?
Cloud cover, too - is it a perfectly clear sky, or is there nothing but clouds?
Lightning storms could be yet another variable.
You could even make it customizable via datapacks.
I will admit, I'm not 100% sure on what exactly a "weather update" would mean in terms of changes and work required, but I feel it's something worth fixing up regardless.
