Chinese Paper Lanterns (1.20)

To fit with the theme of diversity and storytelling, why not add traditional Chinese lanterns to add a different and festive flavour to lighting. The basic crafting recipe would be a torch surround by 7 paper and 1 type of dye. The dye would determine what colour and shape the lantern takes. E.g. a red lantern would be round whilst a blue one might be more rectangular. Paper lanterns could be hanged from the bottom of blocks but not from the side. In addition when placed on the ground the lantern could float a certain number of blocks into the air, spinning around slowly. The player could also stand on the lantern, making for interesting parkour. In conclusion, having Chinese Paper Lanterns would give lot of opportunity for builds, parkour and storytelling.

    This is something that is most likely never going to be added, as it is not a very minecraftish thing. This is more fitting as an add-on. I’m not saying this is a bad idea, just saying it would be very difficult to pull this off as a fully functional & fitting feature of minecraft. Remember, the developers need to take every feature under carful consideration from all point of views.

    It would be cool if we could craft it with different wood types for different colors. The different shapes idea is a bit non Minecrafty imo. The spinning around could just be an animation not an actual moving block.

    This would go really well with the bamboo wood set, but a simpler version of this idea may fit better with the general Minecraft style. Each lantern should probably be the same shape, but like how carpets on Alpacas create different designs, the dye color should create different designs on the paper. I also like the idea of the lanterns floating, but I’m not sure how that could be implemented in a way that fits. Overall, I can imagine a lot of really cool builds with strings of paper lanterns between buildings or paper lanterns resting on the surface of water.

    Maybe the whole floating into the air bit is a bit unminecrafty, however I'm all down for this, maybe even just being able to place them in the air would be cool, and make them unique compared to normal lanterns, perhaps you could place them together and it would make a small string connecting them (kinda like how you can link up hanging signs)

    I feel like having it float up would be very hard to get working properly without it feeling buggy and un-minecrafty. I do think paper lanterns would be cool, but probably just as a regular decorative block.

    And for the crafting recipe, I think it would be better to just craft the regular plain paper lantern, and then dye it afterwards, which is what they did for candles.

    The paper lanterns should have designs/drawings on them to further encourage storytelling. Instead of dye affecting the shape of the lanterns, it should affect the designs on the lanterns.

    For Chinese players, it is best to understand the cultural connotation of this game before adding lanterns. For example, lanterns can drive away zombies and reptiles, or play traditional festive music when players approach

    This is a great idea I think for the place on the ground part you should have to place a string then the lantern and it connects otherwise the lantern will float up until it hits a block above

    on my behalf, one of my favorite blocks in the game is the lantern. when it was introduced in 1.14, it made the game feel so cozy and i was obsessed with them, and still am. i use them so much in my builds, and they're the most used light block for me out of both full-block and decoration category blocks.

    paper lanterns would be a very versatile decoration block that would heavily appeal to self-expression. the way i see it, they would be larger than lanterns but not a full block, and would have the inner cozy, warm light, as well as the paper exterior held up by a bamboo ribbing inner structure-- an excellent use for bamboo besides just being another source of sticks, panda food, and a natural aesthetic. real paper lanterns can sometimes use bamboo for this. the exterior could not only be dyed any color, but there could even be room and potential for creating patterns, like banners. the creative opportunities are huge with this one being so customizable and a lighting source. i am absolutely obsessed with the ability to hang cozy lights over my head, like you'd see in many place with string lights, especially festivals.

    i would love to get to use them in Minecraft for so many builds to expand on having cozy hanging lighting in the game, many other would love it too, and quite a handful of people could even connect to experiences they had growing up seeing them, particularly for Lunar New Year and the Lantern Festival-- a big plus for representation.

    Any new block of light is welcome. But it would be nice if there were also different types of light, not just orange.

    What better idea could they add more structures and more diversity of culture, one, I know it's a lot of work, so that could even be thought of in the future and not in the next update, Two, despite the fact that it is in medieval times, there are more cultures that existed at the same time and it would be nice to see Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Mexican, etc. cultures while we explore the world. That would help more self expression.

    I would love a new light/lantern it would be better and way more beautiful for a Chinese lantern to be in minecraft it’s more decorative than the original torch and lantern. Plus my friends would love it we all wanna go to Japan then after that we are gonna go to China and have fun we are posting it on Facebook and instagram so look out for it please and go ahead and follow us we are trying to beat Thedudewiththeheadband he is mean to us he was my dad at one point and no I’m not Lulu or Henri I’m Navi.     Like when it’s China mid autumn we can decorate the housing and holding it to play with friends,really good idea and let’s hope it get more votes and get added. :D

    I love the idea of more ways of decoration getting added, i don't know how floating would work (because a constantly moving block could be annoying) but i still love the idea. I actually love the idea of different shapes and since Minecraft is going all for personalisation right now, I would find it even cooler if you could make different colours+different shapes. Over all, I love the concept and hope so hard that is going to be added sometime soon.
