I think smaller blocks are possible, but I think putting multiple small blocks of different types would put a lot of stress on the game's engine.

I think you mean Warped Fungus, as there is no Blue Nether Wart. Unless, that is also a part of your suggestion, but just didn't state that.

How about instead if 5 uses, it just requires 1.5 the normal amount of xp, a book, and lapis.
