With the Sniffer being voted into Minecraft, I think it should dig up 2 ancient crop seeds, that have been used for thousands of years here on earth... Corn, and Rice! These are 2 crops that have been around historically for a long-time, so it would be a great education piece in the game... but in terms of gameplay... it would give players a different method of progression to get good food-types in the game! These food types don't necessarily need to have any special characteristics to them... sometimes just having a variety of things to choose from is good enough. Corn and Rice would instantly fit into different styles of builds that people do, becoming instantly insanely popular for landscaping for those that like to build or terraform... and would be 2 new things for players that like the more technical side of Minecraft to figure out how to automatically farm.
If the development team wants to... they could come up with new conditions for these crops... such as rice doing better with extra hydration around... or corn growing faster when it's in larger groups, so it can "cross pollinate", like it does in real-life. Maybe, to make the "cooked" form of both of these, you had to boil them, which would be done in a cauldron, when it sits over top of a fire, camp fire, magma block, or lava! After a short period, it would boil, and a player could pick it out, or you could use a dispenser to get it out (and to place it in, for automation)
