The sniffer should uncover long lost secrets of the ancient Minecraft world, including:
- Ancient biomes which can be grown from seeds uncovered from sniffers
- new plants grown from other sniffer seeds
- new materials found from ancient biomes
- new mobs which start to spawn in those biomes
- secrets which are uncovered by planting sniffer seeds
- more mysteries which come from planting sniffer seeds
- the biome which the sniffer gets seeds from determines what seeds you get
Currently, the only announced features that come with the sniffer is the addition of brand new plants, although I think that the sniffer should be somewhat of a key to the ancient Minecraft world where many secrets are uncovered, however many more mysteries are created. This would expand on the quasi-lore of Minecraft where some things are hinted at and some things are explained, however there is much space for player imagination to fill in the gaps.
Some of the sniffer seeds should be able to grow new ancient biomes which can be revived in the same way that Sniffers themselves are revived by finding their eggs.
It seems as if 1.20 is going to be the storytelling update, and these sniffer mechanics would expand upon this theme. The main idea is that the further the player explores using the sniffer, the more mysteries are created, leaving room for imagination to complete the story.
This also encourages exploration as the player will need to travel across the Minecraft world to find new seeds.
