Today, Minecraft Live announced some upcoming features of the unnamed 1.20 update. While the content for the next update was received as pretty underwhelming, Agnes DID mention how Mojang aims to shape the upcoming update with the help of the community. Keeping that in mind, I'd like to present my idea for statues in Minecraft.
A statue, as I envision it, looks much like an armor stand, however, it is filled in to look solid. First, the player would craft a Statue Frame. In terms of crafting, it's recipe is very similar to that of the armor stand, with the addition of a block or item that describes what kind of statue it is. For example, if I use an iron chestplate to craft the Statue Frame, it becomes a frame for an armored warrior figure; but if I craft the frame with an iron hoe, then I instead craft the figure for a farmer woman.
Now, I can place the Statue Frame on the ground, and its appearance is again similar to an armor stand. To finish the statue, I "cast" it by right-clicking with a stone variant such as granite, deepslate, quartz, mossy cobblestone, etc. This fills in the statue completely with that block type. With my examples, lets say I place down my Statue Frame for the armored figure, and right click with deepslate. I now have a solid deepslate statue of an armored warrior.
As a final touch, if you Shift+Right Click on a statue or frame, it changes the pose of the character, just like Bedrock armor stands.
I think statues would add a wonderful decoration.
