Prevent shovel pathing with blocks in off-hand

It's very annoying having to switch between tools that have no left click functionality when having blocks in your offhand, which makes it a pain to terraform sometimes. It doesn't just affect terraforming, it's anytime i have blocks in my offhand, mainly shulker boxes, because i need to switch to something that has no left click function, which always used to be tools, but since axes and shovels interact with extremely common blocks (shovel being the worst because you're usually placing on grass), it's been made unnecessarily hard to use the offhand. 

I propose either changing how path blocks are made, or preventing shovels from making paths when you have blocks in your offhand. The tradeoff with the latter is that you can't place dirt/grass and immediately path them, but like... the ground's already full of dirt, i don't ever see a situation where path-able blocks need to be placed and pathed at the same time

If there's anything else i want to convey: Please leave the other tools alone, unless it's easily reversable or on an uncommon block.

    I wanna add, i think it'd probably be a better idea to make the offhand tool create paths and strip logs with blocks in main hand, or have offhand tools be able to break their respective blocks regardless of main hand.

    Really i just want the offhand to stop being steamrolled and ignored by newer mechanics

    I agree this should be a feature, I had this exact idea just now and here it is posted from 2 years ago.

    I'd love a toggle such as having to sneak in order to make grass paths or strip wood. Or just make that ability an enchant that could be optional on the shovel or axe. I run into this issue all the time when terraforming with grass in my offhand and having to remember to switch shovel out of main hand.
