I do think that experience does have many uses though there are a lot of times where it is just sitting there with nothing to do, especially late game. I would think that having a weapon that attacks based on experience is a good idea that give xp more meaning late game and also add a fun new feature.
There are two possible options that in my opinion make sense:
- Have it be ranged, like a wand, and use xp as a projectile (maybe have it charge up like a bow and the more charge, the more xp cost)
- Make it melee, and have a damage boost using xp (eats a set amount or fraction of current player xp and adds a reasonable boost based on the amount used)
Of course there are different ways you could do this that could be better but these are the first things I could think of that make sense.
I am not completely sure how to balance it to the point where people want it but at the same time it is not unfair. Maybe I would put it in a future loot table or make a crafting recipe, maybe even a bit of both.
I do think that adding it will change strategy for late game or even mid game combat in a fun way and it could give xp and extra value besides just flexing or mending (though mending is cheap)
(an additional idea is to give it variants like fire or ice and those would give effects based on their element or class, I feel like this can become extremely over powered though)
