Sandpaper

Are any of you tired of wasting your axe durability on making stripped logs?? Then I have the perfect solution for you.

With sandpaper you will be able to strip logs without having to use an axe, and you can smooth stones without using a lot of coal, lava, or any other smelting material.

The crafting recipe will be one sand, and one piece of paper. That would give easy access to the item without needing to go out of your way to find a certain item.

In addition to the item itself, I believe sandpaper should have a durability of 10 before it tears and is broken. I say this because for early game sugar cane may be hard to come by if you have not set up a farm.
