Wolves have not received a relevant update for years. That is why I am going to give some feedback.
Wolf distrust:
Like foxes, these will be wild and distrustful of players: they will not allow themselves to be tamed. Any player who tries to approach them will be attacked. This will make forests and taigas more dangerous and... challenging? maybe.
The only way to get wolves is to find baby wolves that will spawn naturally from time to time, these will be tamed very easily.
Pack of wolves:
Going to a forest will be dangerous due to many wolves around. I suggest increasing the spawning rate of these mobs.
Howling wolves:
If you spend a night in the forest or taigas you will be able to hear wolf howls. These sounds will come from real wolves (not just an ambient sound). Also, this would serve as an alert for players to avoid dangerous wolves.
Wolf sniffing:
What I've always liked about wolves is that you can feed them food and they heal health as their tail goes up.
What I'm suggesting is that giving it a good meal (like a cooked chicken or steak) will cause the wolf to seek things out for you using its powerful sense of smell (kind of like dolphins).
Wolves could find things buried in blocks? maybe? Might fit in well with the future archaeology update.
