Vanilla crafting idea

Gravel is broken down stone, and sand is broken down gravel, so why not have a recipe where you put cobblestone on the edge of the crafting table grid and get gravel and do the same to gravel to get sand? The returns could be same or 2 cobble for 1 gravel ect. Just an idea thanks for reading
