The new moderation system really sucks for server owners, especially those who go out of their way to interact with players and ensure a safe environment. All server owners have had their power usurped, whether it needed to be or not. Here is how you should make banning more versatile
Instead of banning a player Mark them for a certain amount of time. Each server can set its own policy, on allowing Marked players or not. (maybe even let server owners decide which mark reasons can join). If a server does not allow Marked players the ban acts as normal. However, if a server does a warning appears next to that server in the server list. (maybe, servers would be allowed to opt out of Mojang moderation entirely if they are private. Only showing up in a select few peoples server list. Placing a maximum player count on this feature would ensure major servers do not avoid moderation)
This system easily separates servers that could be considered "safe" for kids. Allowing parents to block chat from, or joining servers that allow, marked players via the kids Microsoft account. This would give parents more control over what their child does on multiplayer, while not weighing down on other players experience.
Additionally, servers that have less kid-friendly players and communities can continue to moderate themselves, without worrying that younger players will join. While servers like Hypixel, who are kid-friendly, would be assured no players with track records of harassments would join.
