The article posted about Minecraft's position about NFTs has several statements in it that are inaccurate regarding what NFT technology is, that should be corrected:
The purchase of an NFT provides the token that states the ownership of the original digital file. Yet, with any digital file, that file can be copied, moved, or even deleted.
This describes one use-case of NFT technology, but is not an accurate description of NFT technology in general. The core definition of an NFT is a uniquely identifiable asset (can be a graphical component like a JPEG, or could be a financial position (loan collateral), or a username/domain name, etc.) whose ownership can be traced. What asset is associated with it, and how it's stored is completely up to the developer of each specific project.
Other examples of how NFTs and blockchain could be utilized with Minecraft include ... allowing players to earn NFTs through activities performed on a server ...
Each of these uses of NFTs and other blockchain technologies creates digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion
Having a trophy/achievement/NFT for having done some specific action does indeed "exclude" those who don't take the effort to do that action, but does not make it "scarce".
Some third-party NFT implementations are also entirely dependent on blockchain technology and may require an asset manager who might disappear without notice.
Blockchain technology is not dependent on one "asset manager"; a key feature is it's decentralized.
