They specifically avoided browner mud because it would've clashed/blended too much with the brown of the trees and their roots, and they want more of a contrasted look, which would be more varied and easier to distinguish quickly (especially with distinguishing the rooted mud block).

Yeah, mud would certainly look better if it were a warmer color.

I disagree. There is mud in real life that looks like that (specifically, in ACTUAL SWAMPS). It's rude to insult JAPPA by calling his textures crap, especially when you yourself probably can't actually make even close to a decent texture. It takes a lot of work to make a texture from scratch, and as an artist I'm deeply irritated that you would say that it's ugly just because it's not what you wanted, regardless of the thought behind it's design.

Instead of changing mud's texture, they should just have multiple kinds of mud of varying shades of brown... gray, dark brown, and orange-brown (but all of them can be crafted into packed mud, there is no variant for packed mud).

You do get mud that is that colour in some places and I think it suits the mangroves

But in biomes such as plains I just use soul soil for mud

I think it’s texture should be based on the biome

Maybe a new mud block that has browner colours in other specific biomes, so that we have both options of the grey mud and brown mud to build with.

Although the mud in real mangrove forests are typically gray, I agree that the mud needs to be more brown. It'd be different if there were 2 variations of mud, 1 for mangrove swamps and another that can be made by combining water and dirt.

No offense to Jappa, but I agree that the mud block is simply unappealing and doesn't fit within the dirt/mud palette. How does it go from being a rich brown dirt color, to a desaturated grey with hints of brown, back to a light, rich brown for the bricks?

Like I said, it'd be different if there were 2 different variants of mud, but, seeing how there isn't, I think it should be a richer brown in color.
