I am really not a fan of this. The decision to punish user-reported chat infringements with bans across even private servers does not align with the typical goals of Minecraft, which cater to invested gamers who like having local control of their sessions. To me, this move ostracizes many potential users of Minecraft even within their personal servers, which are meant to be social settings with rules that are separate from other spaces. Making Minecraft a more unusable platform for these friend groups seems very unwise to me, and not friendly to the user base. Let private server owners set their own boundaries and open themselves to the corners of the community that *they* choose. Chat monitoring should not be mandatory for all users without customization.

This is the worst idea y'all could have come up with! I paid for Minecraft and should not be banned or suspended for a comment made in a random server. If the server mods find it reasonable to ban me from that server, then so be it, but if I am wrongly accused and/or the report action gets abused then I will not be able to play a game that I paid for and have been playing for years. Rethink this and fire whoever came up with this idea!

After reading all 296 comments, I saw a grand total of 2 comments that are in full support of this system - and neither gave any reasoning. The remaining 294 comments wanted this system removed completely, completely changed, or at the very least toggleable for independent servers. With how one sided the Minecraft Community's opinion is on this chat reporting system and that the system is still being moved forward despite all the backlash, it is clear to me that this is the doing of Microsoft and Microsoft alone. I've been playing Minecraft since 2012, and I can say with confidence that long time Minecraft developers like Jeb are almost certainly dissatisfied with such a restriction.

On the slim chance any Minecraft Devs end up reading this comment, please don't go through with this. Don't let Microsoft ruin this game. Fight for the true meaning of the game you create - don't let a corporation boss you around. There will be consequences, but millions of us will stand with you -- for the future of our blocky worlds

There is no reason for this feature to be enabled by default on my server that I run or anyone else's.
I run a private server where me and select people do and say as we please.

Minecraft is about building and exploring with friends to me, not all jokes that adults say are family friendly.
Considering that we are adults, we should be able to do and say what we want on a video game.

If I want to have a drink and say something silly with other adults who are also drinking and playing Minecraft, we should not have to think about Mojang butting their head into a, once again...ADULT ONLY SERVER.

I think it's a horrible idea, malicious players report innocents and it wouldn't be long before massive reports with bots

Why does it exist? No one asked for it. This is just a bad idea and bad implications. Just scrap the system all together and never try to do this again.

This is a feature that has no place in Minecraft.  It is not the responsibility of Microsoft to moderate chat on private servers between users, nor should it be.  No one likes this change.  Please listen to the players of your game.

Words cannot describe just how bad of an idea this is.  As a long time player and Minecraft veteran, I absolutely guarantee you that the moment this is officially added into the game, the vast majority of people in the community will either abuse the system to get each other unjustifiably banned, or just stop playing the game altogether because the system is just a form of censorship and violates the universal right to freedom of speech.  Just do yourself and the fans a favor, and just abandon this system entirely - It will save you a lot of trouble down the road.

I have a big problem with this feature... To check if someone really break the Community Rules there must be a possibility to send the whole chat to a moderator so they can check that. For a safe place to play on private servers, its not your responsibility to create a safe spot for the players. Thats the responsibility of  the owner from the server. But when there just make trouble in chat, why ban them from the whole multiplayer? Better: The Players could be automaticly be muted if they broke the rules, so every player can decide on there own, to read the messages from the player or not.

The best opinion you have is: let it be! Minecraft isn't a game that have to be moderated by offical moderators. Since 2011 this game didn't need this feature and it still won't need that!

    SO JUST LET IT BE!

    2. option
Do it but don't take the choice of the Server Owners who can join on there server! Every player can decide to join or leave a server for ever, if they don't like how some people write to them. And pls let the server owners the choice if they want to take part on this big spy system by microsoft! Every player should have the possibility that everything that he writes is private! The most server owners that leads a big Server take care about that!

This will still only ever be acceptable if it is opt in or out for administrators of privately hosted servers.

Don't add it and remove it from bedrock edition that's how you reach parity but your not gonna listen because all you care about is money not your players and you want the ability to "advertise" as "family friendly" when you literally already can

BAD IDEA, please guys don't do it, i really think, that in servers like hypixel, they already have a good chat ban,   and what about 2b2t? or others anarchy servers? people whould get banned?   what about the context?,  spamming reports? with hacks or malwares?

Microsoft buying mojang has been the worst thing to happen to minecraft.

Remove this horrible feature! or atleast dont make it on every single private server! Do you guys not have trust in your player base to moderate there own servers?

The moderation of non-realm servers should be an opt-in feature.  A server operator should be able to choose to opt-in to the 'Microsoft moderation service' which will apply the ban list that it's accumulated to any accounts that join.  However, being banned by the moderation service shouldn't apply to servers who have opted out of the moderation feature, this is either because they have their own dedicated moderators or they're a private server being run privately.  As is, the current implementation institutes a ban that applies even on a server that you yourself host, which removes a lot of freedoms of a game people have purchased.

i think a lot of players won't update to 1.19.1. It's the worst thing what Mojang can do.

And what with offline servers ? offline players can't be reported.

What just about removing this "Feature" or at least just mute players in the chat.(why ban someone to join servers if he typed something in the chat)

Servers have they onw bans and reporting system. No one asked for a global chat reporting system.

Java players are not the bedrock players, servers in java are not the same servers as bedrock servers.

It's the Java community who makes their onw rules on thier own servers and not a big corporation like Microsoft.

Because a game without the community is no longer a game.

Why even add this? Privately owned servers typically have admins and such to get rid of people harassing and bullying others. This new system is only enabling trolls to get people banned unfairly since it'll be fairly easy to abuse it. Literally nobody asked for this so just delete it.
You are for real killing your own game

One of the biggest issues with these sorts of moderation teams is that they feel like they aren’t doing their jobs if they aren’t making bans. Please make sure they know that if they aren’t banning anyone, they’re doing their jobs well enough that nobody wants to break the rules anyway.

I want to highlight the comment that's currently at the top of my page, because I think it truly is the best solution and is much more thoughtful than all the other reactionary "just delete the feature" posts, while still critiquing and giving helpful changes to it. Please, please consider this.

I don't think any player really wants this. But I sadly don't think they really care what we want. Its sort of just demoralizing to read their explanations and see their commitment to go through with this despite the backlash. I feel so sad because I've enjoyed this game so long and this will alter it dramatically.
