I personally own and manage a public Minecraft server, and I feel like my own judgment and moderation system is being grossly disrespected by the chat reporting system. However, I understand the desire for maintaining a safe environment, especially considering the number of children who enjoy Minecraft. My proposed solution: add a line in the server.properties file

    chat-reporting=true

and add a parental control option to only allow connecting to officially moderated servers. This way, players who want to be able to discuss more mature topics or who want to play on anarchy servers can have their fun in their own pocket of the universe, and impressionable children can be protected from potential harm.

The report feature, though made in good faith, is going to be abused by those who wish to cause harm and troll innocent players- as well as used against those in competitive events and games in order to unfairly remove competition.

Roblox had done similar, and has suffered for it- It does not prevent the problems from occurring, it just makes them harder to detect, as the people who are genuinely doing things that are against the rules or otherwise harmful things, will find a way around the rules in order to continue doing the things that they want to accomplish.

This will ultimately lead to reports being less effective, and thus, real issues not being addressed- In roblox, you cannot get someone properly reported for offensive usernames and conduct, as there are so many false entries, that it outweighs those that are genuine complaints. Not to mention, that it will be abused to frame and unfairly persecute those who have not actually done anything worthy of  a ban.

Please remove/roll back/do not implement this feature, as it will end up losing you a lot of your fanbase, and any money that you may have otherwise earned from these players.

I don’t think this should be added to the game considering that Minecraft and Minecraft servers have been self moderated for over a decade there has always been that player and owner of the game relationship where players would be trusted to moderate there own server and it has worked for a long time i dont see why giving people the option to ban someone for something they said/did would be good especially as it can get you banned from your own survival worlds which i think is a terrible option considering it’s your own world you built and you can be banned from being able to play it for saying something why ban people from survival i think Minecraft needs to take a look at what the community is saying and understand that the players need to be listened to we are the ones who play this game and have for many years i think we should have an impact to how this game is updated and that u need to listen to the community always respect and understanding is a connection Minecraft devs and owners and players need

I think that as long as there are security measures in place to prevent falsifying, even from within the modded client, it is a good idea, and it is a good way to prevent toxicity. The bannable offenses really are just the worst of the worst, so with good moderators, I doubt over-moderation will really be a problem.

I was a server owner, but once I heard this is being implemented I switched back to playing Fortnite and some of the Lego games with my friends. Please make it easier to disable chat reporting, I couldn't figure it out.

    Please don't lie.

"All player reports will be reviewed by an investigator to make sure the complaint is well-founded so that any suspensions or bans that might result are fair."

Is just obviously false. It took you (if I remember correctly) three entire months to respond to an issue of a stolen account. And the first response was a cookie cutter response from a robot, not a person, who ignored any and all context I put in the correspondence and told me to go to a FAQ page. Then I had to wait another month or two, for an actual reply from a human.

You have shown no proof that you have humans even bothering to check for context. You have shown your support workers are overworked, underpaid, and understaffed.  No one here has any reason to trust you, and frankly your methodology of only raising nebulous definitions imbues nothing but hatred for your corporate stone walling. You have in the past refused to care about language barriers (the use of foreign language and\or accents) in relation to your bans. And It is painfully obvious to see that you will ban Spanish or Portuguese players for using words that are forbidden in English, or for talking about a certain Cat Breed from Maine.

You don't care about us, you never did. You are only pretending to do so now, and will inevitably create a disaster. We are asking you to stop, but you don't care because you only care about cashing out.

Remove this feature entirely, it's a really bad idea and very very unpopular, why are mojang trying to alienate players? Theres a massive opportunity for this feature to go wrong, and it feels that mojang cannot trust server owners to manage their own servers which they have been doing for the last 10 years. The FAQ does not address most of the questions or concerns people have with this. At the VERY MOST this feature should be opt-in on servers.

I am the Executive Director of a nonprofit organization for LGBTQ+ youth and a major part of our outreach is the private Minecraft server that we run. Our team feels like this is is an extreme overreach with poor implementation, and we are worried. We strongly feel that someone should not be denied access to our community because someone at Mojang decided their behavior elsewhere was in appropriate. This should be at the very least an opt-out feature for private servers. Please reconsider, this is harmful.

Promises of a highly trained mod team are not convincing at all, as Bedrock edition has a bad history of false bans and censorship. Harmless words like "night" and "japan" are automatically blocked in anvils, even my singleplayer signs and books are heavily censored. You'll find many cases of seemingly automated bans and shadow muting in Bedrock if you google it.

Words like "kill yourself" are banned, but what if I say that to respawn? What about roleplaying servers where I play as an evil assassin (another banned word)? How can mods tell that my server is roleplay, without looking at the entire server history? Bedrock edition moderation is so restrictive, you can even get banned in singleplayer.

Words like "tea bag", "pakistan", "crap", "deez nuts", "abortion", "sofa king", "aids" are banned... really?

Again, I can't trust the mod team to do a better job in Java. If you want parental controls, simply prevent kids from opening the chat window, please don't force the entire internet to babysit kids. The average age of Minecraft players is 24, and they should be allowed to talk adult stuff in their private servers and singleplayer worlds.

For more than a decade there has been a system in place that works. This was to let server owners individually monitor their own server. By implementing the ability to have chat be reported to Microsoft, it removes the trust between players and the Company. Furthermore, it takes away choices from the community on how to run servers how they actually want to instead of how Microsoft and Mojang want them to.

I'm not saying that it's necessary to completely remove the system from the game, but to allow players to not feel like they are being monitored everywhere there needs to be some restrictions on the power of Microsoft, so I have some ideas to share:

-For the report to be considered valid, it must be sent by someone directly involved in the situation and not a bystander. bystanders can still report and the person could be "flagged" but they cant be suspended unless the report was submitted by a player that was actually involved in the issue.

-Owners of servers can choose to opt out of the reporting system and have independence from Microsoft, allowing players who are suspended as a result of getting reported access to their separate server, and preventing reports from happening in these servers. This would essentially allow owners who already had moderation set up to remain on their system, as it has been proven to work.

I do not believe this system is required, especially on today's servers with the moderation that the server itself provides. If anything, I feel like a player should be punished with at most a mute in chat, and also just on the server that the offense was on. But truly? We don't need the system at all. Servers have taken care of themselves just fine for all this time with their own moderation teams. Please listen to what the majority is saying here, we don't need this feature.

Please do not implement this feature. Community-run servers have been able to moderate themselves for years, they don't need a system like this forced on them.

Can't believe that after playing this game for over a decade I could now be banned for saying something bad on my own private Minecraft server. Great thinking Microsoft, I'm really glad you bought Mojang.

Edit: Is even a single person outside of Microsoft in favor of this decision?

When moderation was announced for Java it made me pissed that Microsoft wants to make Minecraft more "Kid Friendly" when server owners have been having no problem hiring admins to deal with people that break the rules on the server there server on for years on Java. I would not be able to imagen 2b2t with the moderation system cause you know what type of server it is.

Almost every server owner I have seen on the Minecraft Feedback website that had commented about something related about chat filtration don't want Microsoft to moderate there servers.

I am fine with you coping and pasting this comment and putting it somewhere else

The fact that you can remove access to ALL multiplayer modes permanently and have just a simple "we got a man who investigates the claims" as the only defense against false reports isn't helpful. The fact that this feature is on ALL servers private and public is terrible and it removes agency from those that run the servers. This kind of "tool" is how you kill your community goodwill very quickly.

    This trash needs to go.

EDIT: How to report a patch feature to get IT banned instead?

make it only available in minecraft realms, don't implement it in private servers this could cause chaos and people will start false reporting to the once they hate, please don't implement this thing

    My server, MY rules!

I will not be updating my server any time soon if such a horrible idea is implemented. Enabling such a draconian feature will potentially require private servers to open up to hacked/fake clients.  Thus decreasing overall security of private servers.

    Personally this is too much.

Censorship in singleplayer? Perma-bans made by an automatic algorithm?

If you go on like this Minecraft will soon be just a kids game. Just remember that there are also lots of adults playing the game, and that these kind of options should be switchable for the server/world owner.

I think all these problems with the community could have been avoided by simply letting the admins manage their own servers as it always has been, because apart from anarchy servers, no sane admin would be ok with harassment in their own server.

And if you (Microsoft) don't even bother to host Java servers, why lose time and money to hire people to read thousands of reports when the server owner could just do it and ban in 5 seconds? It's like a waste.

I am ok with the idea of preventing harassment/cursing altoghether (before even sending the message), but the way it was executed and imposed with no choice is terrible, and from now on people will even be scared to joke around with their friends.

This leads to the fact that the system will likely be abused by many people, and with no context being given along the report this is very bad, if you know how immersive a game can be, how will you distinguish the references to the game character from those of the person without context?

Since this is a new feature i think it would be a good idea to remove it and think of an entirely new system to prevent harassment and cursing, because this one is clearly not working the way it should.

Please Mojang we're begging you! Private servers have moderated themselves ever since they came to exist. This system will scare players way from discovering new servers, because they fear being reported by malicious players. You will be inflicting irreversible harm to Minecraft multiplayer.

Server owners should be free to moderate their servers as they please. How can there ever be fair report reviews when the reviewers don't have a single clue about the complicated context that some servers have.

What about players being taunted into swearing? This feature will only move toxicity to other platforms, it will completely ruin and kill public chats because players might fear being banned!

How to kill your game 101:

Take a sandbox game with extreme freedom and start baning people from all multiplayer when they are reported by trolls...

Please remove this feature or at least make it easy to deactivate from private servers

if you actually implement this feature into minecraft you're gonna lose alot of money and players.
anarchy servers are built around profanity and the list if swords that can ban you is rediculous
if i were to change i thing in history it would be from microsoft from buying mojang minecraft, let the admins and mods do the work and keep the servers safe, some servers are meant to be filled with profanity and thats the way it is. if the admins wanted to they could ban players from the server.
i speak for many others, we all want this feature removed and if this feature exists i will have to leave with a cold goodbye.

    behalf all the anarchy servers

Who are you to say what I'm allowed and not allowed to say to my friends? And if my friends don't like it they shouldn't play on my server. Simple stuff.
