leave chat moderation to the Server moderators of their games. If you feel you must implement the feature please limit it to the servers that Microsoft control and leave private servers out of this process. Minecraft has been perfectly fine moderating itself  for years now and does not need an outside force to police us. There will be no doubt to my mind that many innocent players will be chased away from the game due to report abuse that will no doubt happen. Similar to the abuse to the Report system on youtube where whole channels can be trashed because too many folks reported a video or set of vids that had no problems in them. The minecraft community will probably thin quite a bit as those that get banned for poor reasons will move to other services or eventually make a new minecraft clone, and take their fans with them. Like the community did to blizzard making private servers of WoW and warcraft to spite Blizzards efforts of things happening on the main servers. So again please stop the policing actions that the various server admins can handle themselves without help or oversight from a council that is not involved in said game session and has no knowledge to the events in said session.

It is completely unbelievable that such a player reporting service will be moderated by humans in the long-term. It is simply not scalable, how many trained moderators would be needed to support the gigantic player base of Minecraft? I imagine hundreds, if not thousands, of people working 24/7 just for this unwanted feature. As it has happened before on other sites like YouTube, it will be human moderated until Microsoft gathers enough report-answering material to train a machine learning model to answer the reports automatically. And then, the game will be doomed, since even a 0.01% of false-positive automated bans will end up in too many children and teenagers losing their accounts, and having to unfairly appeal their "assumed guilty" reports to a human that will take weeks to reply.

Please Mojang, please Microsoft, we are not dumb. Stop this feature entirely, or take more development cycles to actually make it believable, scalable, and trustworthy in the future.

I don't see why these posts even exist, or this feedback forumn entirley. It seems even though every comment/review of this feature is negative, everything is just ignored. Why can't you see, through how it has been done through bedrock and all the hypotheticalls that this is a bad, if not horrible idea.

everyone hates this. the amount of people false reporting will be insane, and a small human moderation team for a game with over 140 million active players? are you serious?

let servers self moderate, they've been doing it longer than you guys and actually know what they're doing. either toggle it or get rid of it all together.

    why are you adding this???

servers have been able to moderate their players perfectly fine for like, a decade. they don't need y'all to "help" them.

The "simple" solution is to just allow servers to decide if they are child-friendly or not, and only give Mojang the power to ban people from child-friendly servers, not from multiplayer entirely. That a person could lose the ability to even open the multiplayer screen at all is freaking terrifying.

Why does everything have to pander to toddlers these days? Let adults have their safe spaces too, where they don't have to fear getting cut off from their friends for having adult conversations in the game they love. By creating this blanket "safe space" you are, ironically, making hundreds of thousands of people feel less safe. And that feeling matters.

The chat reporting feature is a big mistake. It should either be optional or not be included at all. If keeping the community safe for young children is essential, then don't enforce this on the whole community. Make the decision up to the players and server owners rather than you. If necessary, make a different chat system for younger accounts and leave the current chat system for older ages. It is ridiculous that this has to be a discussion rather than an obvious answer. Please allow free speech on Minecraft. The foundations of the game are based on freedom. Do you want to play survival? Go ahead. Do you want free mode? Go ahead. Do you want mods and extra additions to the game? Go ahead. Minecraft bedrock does have the chat feature, why copy them? It has not been working at all. Server owners have been dealing with chat abuse since they started their servers. Why add extra restrictions on the community when they didn't ask, don't need it, can handle it on their own, and get mods to make it easier. If the Minecraft staff is reading this, please don't change Minecraft in bad ways. Almost all of us like the game and would rather have physical updates to the world and mobs rather than community changes. It is very unnecessary and people are already finding ways to stop it. Stop wasting time and money and focus on what the people want.

To start, opting out of the reporting should be easier, and the added chat modification warning indicators feel unnecessary and entirely there to add extra hassle to anyone that attempts to opt out of the system, same with enforcing secure chat being on by default. Overall I like the idea of trying to ensure players are being nice to each other in-game, but this is something that should be up to server owners, especially when most large servers as well as commercially driven ones that this would probably be targeting like hypixel already have their own systems. I also think it's going too far that it's a game wide multiplayer ban, not just a chat ban or bans per server. Overall this feels like it goes against the game's culture and design, Minecraft has historically has put emphasis on the open nature of it (run your own servers, modding is encouraged, hell even make client side cheats). Again, I like the idea of chat moderation, but it's not really an issue to begin with, and the system goes against the nature of the game and especially the community. At best this should be exclusive to realms or be heavily dialed back (especially with the system effectively punishing anyone attempting to opt out of it and each pre-release making the process even more difficult). I understand this is being done in good faith and the team wants the best for the community but this seems to be a solution in search of a problem.

Please don't implement this chat report system. It can be abused easily, and server owners and moderators can just kick and ban people from their own servers. We do not like this idea at all, so please get rid of the system so we can all be happy.

Chat reporting delegates an important part of a server owner's job to other people, which  makes people feel very uncomfortable. Please make it a feature we can opt out of? If not, this community has always found ways around your... less than savoury features.

please get rid of this feature or at least allow servers to disable it, this feature can be extremely abused and will absolutely destroy large communities and servers like hypixel and 2b2t, heck, there are players on 2b2t who use automated bots to scan all open servers which they then can invade and mass false report player chats as well, we dont want this feature in this game.

This can not go well.  Please do not implement this.  People make mistakes, and people moderating on such a large scale will make more mistakes than usual.
If you really want to protect people, just let the servers deal with moderation.  Smaller sets of people to moderate and additional context will ensure the best result for players.
At-least make the reporting system optional for players.

Do not ship this feature on private servers.

If it can't be disabled, this is the end of Minecraft servers; Minetest and others exist already.

There are definitely bigger issues than this, including the pay to win servers that was originally going to be stopped. Paying money for a game and then being locked out from playing it because of a false ban is just asking for more people to have the game. Minecraft servers like hypixel have their own and pretty good ban system. Small/private servers can just whitelist anyone that they don't want on their server anymore. This will ultimately cause more problems in the future and definitely hurt the games reputation.

One of my current concerns that havent been mentioned in the FAQ or anywhere at all is

Where and how will the human moderation operate? Is it exported into a third world country like india? How will a human moderator deal with all the languages that minecraft supports? How will a human moderator deal with a word that is a slur in one language but is not in the other?

How do we know that all appeals and bans will get automated without Microsoft or Mojang constent?

I haven't got much to add, other than please make the chat reporting optional.  The intentions may be good, but considering how quickly the definition of "hate speech" or "violent extremism" can change I worry.  If that kind of thing is on my server I'm more than capable of kicking the offending users.

Just listen to the community on this and remove this feature entirely. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, wants this feature. If for whatever reason you still want to implement this at least make it toggleable for private servers. Next time feel something like this out in the community before announcing it out of the blue without leaving the community any say in it.

Additionally to the popular idea of toggling this option off in the server options file you can also add a clientside warning about the option turned off (I think this would be fine for both sides). This warning could be shown on every server with the feature turned off and hopefully have a checkbox "don't show again", at least for this exact server. It's something like the warning about multiplayer content we see when we open multiplayer menu for the first time. Again, the ability to toggle this option changes almost everything about this entire concept

Hello, since I last tried to comment, and I do not believe that my comment was approved despite the worst things I said were one for one words that were in-game in the report menu, many of the categories in the reporting tool that pertained to imagery or videos have been removed! How did options that can only ever be fathomably reported if they're images make sense in text only chat? This whole fiasco seems like the inbred child of an abusive mother. Not made right, does not work, and everyone hates it. So many bad decisions were made up to this point, decisions that make so little sense, it's a miracle that we people outside of mojang even get to see it, but it's flooding in in waves. I can only implore that you remove these mistakes so that the public doesn't have to feel ashamed at looking at this poor half dead amalgamation any further.

Just get rid of the system entirely. Servers have been dealing with bans just fine since Minecraft's creation. Why mess with it now?

I believe Mojang made a huge mistake adding this into Java Edition. I understand they want to keep our communities healthy, but you have private servers involved in the matter. This shows on your part an enormous lack of confidence in our player community to keep ourselves in check and an unwillingness to listen to your community when they have clearly said that this is something they don't want.

On a private server, admins and moderators are responsible for keeping the community healthy and ensuring the rules of their respective servers are followed. If it was a Mojang-owned server, then it would be your responsibility and you would be welcome to set the rules as you see fit as it would be within your jurisdiction.

However, in the case where independently owned private servers are involved, you're clearly outside your jurisdiction. Their server, their rules. They should also have the right to choose if they wish to enforce any form of global ban list or not.

Why are you continuing the charade that you care about what we think of this? Just be honest and admit you are proceeding with this because you have ulterior motives, you know that this will damage the game and wont protect the children but you don't care. STOP LYING, just tell us why you are doing this!

Please remove this chat reporting feature, it's a feature that doesn't solve any problems and only makes existing ones worse. If some player doesn't want any profanity in their chat that's fine but an optional profanity filter with customizable filters would actually work better than whatever this chat reporting feature would do.
