The chat reporting feature is a bad idea, server owners and admins have moderated very well for over a decade and with any reporting feature in any game, it can and will be abused. Prominent minecraft figures may be targeted by reports and any message sent can seem way worse when taken out of context. The chat reporting "feature" has no place in Java or Bedrock Minecraft and should be scrapped altogether as boundaries and rules regarding in-game chat should be set by the server admins and moderators.

Not everything has to be "child friendly". Appropriate moderating is already being done on java servers by it's developers who want to enforce a child friendly environment. Not every server's in-game chat should be forced to abide by your guidelines, especially since they're paying a third party to host said server(s).

Guys your chat filter *at the least* should be optional. Having it unable to even be shut off is a really stupid idea. It doesn't help that it is pretty overbearing in its filtering abilities. Server owners should have the option to opt in or out of your hamfisted chat moderating system. I'm in my mid 20s and shouldn't have to worry about being banned for saying fuck with my friends while we are on our own private minecraft server.

Please do not do this! Pretty much every Minecraft server has a moderation system, so they dont need you doing it for them, players already get punished on Minecraft servers but thats just for that server, I think its absurd that if you do something wrong, or get falsely reported you get banned from all of multiplayer. If you still want to do something, censoring messages is fine with me. Just dont censor messages that dont even offend people like "crap".

Mojang, nobody cares if you swear in the game, all these years the game was perfect but this ban thing is just too much. Please, stop this thing, we want to play with our friends, and we want to play the game!

well, moderating Servers, that Mojang/Microsoft doesn't even host is dumb. What if you are on a Server with your friends, hosted by your friends (an SMP) and now you are getting banned from playing Multiplayer all along, just because you made a Joke or shortened a Name.

At least build in a Button were Players can deactivate it on THEIR Server.

I think this tool is just misused...
In my opinion this feature should be a tool for server operators and not Microsoft to use.
A great use of this would be for these reports to be sent to the moderation and for them to decide on what to do with it. This would allow the moderators to use an already existing tool instead of using a 3rd party mods or plugins that allow for /report option or other things.

As a person who rarely uses chat, especially in a vulgar manner I think this change is awful. As many people point out, server moderators already have tools to deal with players who break the rules and they can simply use /ban command.

I believe that this change shouldn't exist in its current form. Either they should make it a moderation tool for private server admins or abandon this idea. Otherwise people will most likely abandon this game. I believe that if this game is to have a fruitful future, then Microsoft and Mojang and people that make the decisions should listen to the comunity, which speaks united against this idea.

I have owned minecraft for over a decade, played thousands upon thousands of hours. My main account has a 2011 minecon cape. Any form of reporting/ banning that applies outside the server you were banned from does not belong in minecraft. The individual server owner should have the ability to choose who plays on the server they host. The game was not made for kids and that is the reason it became so popular. It is a sandbox game made for all ages. It should be left up to the parents to moderate their children. The game should not be catered towards them. Minecraft servers are not a daycare and have no obligation to censor their chats in any way. Mojang/ Microsoft should have no say in moderation other than permanent account termination via the EULA for actual legal matters.

If Mojang is going to release the system like this, it would only be fair to have a feature to disable it. Seeing how many false bans it has on Bedrock edition.
