Limiting the number of report categories is a step in the right direction, but third-party servers should still be allowed to either opt-out of chat reporting entirely, or opt-out of adhering to a banlist they have no input or control over.

Any form of chat reporting is a bad idea - do not add this feature.

As a server owner I do not feel safe with chat reporting feature. It delegates important part of managing a server to global moderators I do not know who are just humans, make mistakes and have their own biases. It also makes it too easy to violate my own privacy in a place I feel comfortable in (my private server).

The rules you've set to specify the type of abuse you are willing to act on are too general and give too much of leeway for moderators to act according to their own biases. For example "Non-consensual intimate imagery" can be a lot of things, there is also sometimes no way to tell if consent was given or not even with expanded context you mention. This can especially be problematic for minorities, as bias can be also expressed through moderation practices. We would like to have an option to moderate our own space in the way we deem fit.

While I understand potential reasons for introducing such a feature, this feature makes me feel unsafe by taking away control from me and my group of friends over place we consider our safe-space. We find such outcome unsettling and wanted to voice our opposition to introduction of such feature.

So I guess this will affect all servers, then? There's still no news about it being optional.

There's going to be tons of false bans if mods don't look at the entire chat for context. Bedrock edition has a bad history of permanent wrongful bans and heavy censorship, and we can't trust the mod team to do a better job in Java. The mod team on minecraft feedback website is erasing all my criticisms, including this one, and I'm not sure what else to edit to make this seem as inoffensive as possible.

Why waste Mojang's time and money on chat report systems, nature-friendly videos, and all sorts of irrelevant things? Why not just focus on making a fun fantasy game?

Mojang, please realize that this isn't just a kids game, many adults play it too. If they want to swear and talk alcohol in their private servers and realms, let them. There are also many communities where people are cool with exchanging insults to each other, all in good fun. And what about those anarchy servers? Are you going to police and censor everyone there?

A lot of us care about minecraft and we don't want it to be destroyed by bad decisions. I'm honestly hoping that Minecraft can continue to be a game relevant for decades to come, and can compete with competitors like Hytale, but lately it's been quite worrying.

Remove chat reporting completely. It's intrusive, abusable, and since I doubt any real human is going to look at said reports, false bans will be inevitable. We do not need this. We do not want this. The community has been vocal about wanting this removed ever since it was announced.

I host my server, I pay for my server, I decide what's allowed and not allowed on my server, not Mojang or Microsoft.

Though, server admins could be posting inappropriate chat messages and wouldn’t be banned if all the chats were to go to the server admin, so maybe the moderation team might have to be involved. The same problem might go for disabling chat reporting. But then, if the moderation team is involved, that’s a lot of work on their part and would almost lead to false bans. It’s kind of a lose-lose scenario. So, I think if there has been a person who is reported say,3 times on the same server, A person from the mod team could go onto the server, there asking about the server’s rules and such. And then, the moderators would check the server’s chat log, and if a person had been found violating chatting rules on that server, and that player had already violated chatting rules on other servers, then it would be a ban from online play temporarily. Of course, this would only apply to public servers and not private ones.

Please do not implement game wide chat reporting and global banning. This is a bad thing. I can not express enough how little faith I have in any potentially overworked, understaffed Microsoft moderators, or any algorithm that might attempt to replace them, to properly manage distinguishing legitimate reports from false ones. I also do not believe that they can adequately respond to ban appeals in a timely manner with the appropriate actions. Gamewide multiplayer banning as a whole is also an extreme measure that no company or system should be able to use. As an adult that paid for this game, nobody should be able to take it away from me for any reason. Private server owners should have no third party moderation of any kind as it is the responsibility of the server owner to freely manage their own issues as they see fit.

I don’t like the concept of permabans. If you were a player who just plays with friends and got false reported on a public server, then you’d have to buy a new account just to hang out with your friends! Please only do temporary bans.

    Regarding the new ban system.

I truly see how the Minecraft team is trying to do a good thing with this new feature. However, the way it is being implemented brings up some serious concerns. Many servers that I, and many other adult players use, are private servers hosted on our own personal devices or through third-party hosting services. Many of these servers are whitelisted so that only those we know are allowed onto these servers. In these servers, we may talk about adult topics or use adult language because we are all old enough and comfortable with it. I think it would be best if private servers had the opportunity to opt out of the chat reporting and ban system. That way, servers that want to keep Mojang's level of moderation will be able to easily, and servers that want to do the moderating themselves can do so as well.

To address any concern about player safety with an opt-out feature, servers that have opted out should have a warning screen when joining, stating that the server the player is about to join has opted out of the chat-moderation program, and may contain content not suitable for everyone. Perhaps letting parents decide whether their child's account can join servers off of the list would be another useful feature. These features would bring the best of both worlds when it comes to player safety and good player experience.

Chat bans are a very, very bad idea Mojang. I don't have an issue with the fact you are distributing punishments for players that are too vulgar, the issue is you are issuing ONLINE BANS for CHAT OFFENSES. Mute players, do not ban them. You are giving players a completely unrelated punishment and this is a gross mishandling of player control.

As a small server owner and small content creator, I do not feel safe in MC anymore with this feature. Players should NEVER be afraid for their account because of what developers do.

In response to this, using the chat report feature is going to be a punishable offense on my Minecraft server. A rule you made is going to be against the rules in my server, and that speaks volumes.

Please revert back the reporting system.

I've had a minecraft server for 5 years. With this new reporting system we will initiate the end of the server and no longer update to 1.19.1. This update is uncovered. The server owner alone should decide who gets banned and who doesn't. I didn't know that Mojang pays the server costs and can decide who is allowed to play on the server and who is not!
This system will bring chaos to all servers. Players who don't like trolls or server employees will report staffler for no reason. We don't want to keep supporting the game with the fear of being banned for no reason. We say NO to the system.

I despise the direction this is going. Nobody should ever be entirely banned from online play for any reason. Policing everybody's online experience, even when its privately hosted or managed, is a gross move that makes me feel babied and afraid to chat at all out of fear.

Taking control away from the players in a sandbox game is horrendously ironic and should be reconsidered. If I join a server I'm hosting with my exclusively adult friends I should not have the ability to randomly report one of them and get them banned for an out of context or edgy joke.

I've played this game since I was in elementary school, and the coolest experiences I've had was joining a random public server and speaking to people without worry of repercussion. If an individual server finds somebody ban worthy, let that server handle it.

Nobody's singular decision should dictate if an account can play online in any compacity.

I truly love this game and implore you not to ruin some of its most magical traits. Regardless of how lax this system is, the inclusion of the report button at all adds unease with every message sent. Minecraft is about freedom and expressing yourself, and this does nothing but make that harder to do.

Chat reporting is a feature that can only serve as a detriment to the game and community. It shouldn't be included in the game at all, especially not as a mandatory list that server owners have to follow. It is invasive and dangerous to the health of the game and its players.

Remove it entirely.  There are still situations where innocent players can be banned because Microsoft/Mojang do not have all the context of conversations.  It is not your job to police private servers, it is the job of the server owners and any moderators they have.

This feature is incredibly reckless and will only lead to abuse. Listen to the community and do not go forward with this, you will only hurt the good faith of the community of you do.
Microsoft and Mojang should not be able to ban users from private servers.

I have never directly voiced my opinions towards a Minecraft update as it's mostly personal creative disagreements that I have no right to actually be upset about, but this is crossing a line. Third-party servers should not be forced to adhere to a banlist created and managed by Mojang/Microsoft, especially given the very high likelihood of the reporting system being abused by players. A ban on public servers should not prevent a player from being able to set up their own private server between friends either. There are far, FAR many better options for making multiplayer safer for players (maybe a friends only chat?), this is quite possibly one of the worst options and it would honestly make me feel less safe in multiplayer. Please reconsider implementing this feature.

allow servers to opt-out of the global banning system. While you are allowed by the TOS we all agree to when we play to enforce this system, keep in mind that you are effectively trespassing on every server owner's property by enforcing a global banlist.

Mojang, do not add chat reporting. if someone is violating the EULA, its the server owners responsibility to take care of it. whether they get banned, lose access to certain features, its their job, and you cannot take responsibility for it. you can warn them you have received multiple reports about so and so violating the EULA on the server, and that they need to take care of it. with people getting banned from playing any server, this could be abused heavily, especially since it will be impossible to verify the claims, unless you have a 24/7 view on what's happening. but that would take away privacy, and i didn't buy this game to be spied on. i bought the game to play it by myself or with friends, and not to be banned from doing that. LAN world banning is dumb; i live in literally the room next to them, so if i say something that gets me banned, its not like it matters. if i, say, swear, and get banned for it, i can just go to their rooms, and swear just the same. though i dont swear, and that was an example, its still dumb that i cant even play with my siblings.

Speaking as someone who purchased Minecraft back in its Beta development years; Chat Report should be entirely removed as it stands. This game has gone approximately a decade with a thriving multiplayer community (even under Minecraft's so-called "Dark Ages") who have been able to moderate themselves according to their rules, on servers they pay to host, oftentimes with their own tools to automate it relative to their needs.

By blanketing communities with chat reports that bypass their established rules and punishments, you are not only ignoring and taking away control from those communities looking to regulate themselves while having fun, but you are also smothering, driving away, and potentially destroying a lot of those communities (some that have been running for years with no troubles) in your crusade to centralize moderation. No amount of changing around vague rulings in the report will fix this inherent problem with the feature.

If you absolutely must keep chat report in some capacity, stick it as a Realms and officially hosted Mojang/Microsoft servers exclusive function. Those are your own servers, so it's your right to take away the ball in your court if players misbehave. But believe me, if this feature even so far as extends outside that scope, it will be thoroughly abused to the point that a lot of false-positives and context-ignorant reports and bans will be made. I would sooner trust a server's moderation team to make the right call over this report system.

As a server owner myself I am not very happy with the current implementation of the chat reporting. That does not mean that I am against implementing a feature like this, but not in the current form.

On a server where children are playing, it is absolutely reasonable to provide some type of official control / protection of what is happening there. But not every server is even targeted towards children. I like to play on servers where only older people are playing and I don't see the need for some official reporting features there. We have our own methods of moderating, and those are completely sufficient, and I don't have to "be scared of false bans".

In my opinion the best solution would be to have the option to completely disable this feature as a server owner. All servers with the feature enabled should be marked as "Mojang moderated" (for example with a special icon in the server list), and parents should have the option to only allow playing on servers with the moderation feature enabled.

But please give us the option the disable the feature if one wants to do so.

Mojang, I don't know if Microsoft is making you do this or if you're doing this out of your own will, but this has to stop. If you go through with this update as is, it will create another divide in the community just like 1.9 did. Servers will simply not update to versions past 1.19. People will literally not experience your future updates just because they're afraid of getting banned by you. Please listen to the thousands of people telling you not to do this.

If you are intending to go ahead with the player chat reporting feature please allow server operators to disable the reporting in the server settings file as the default option.

Also what protections against abusing the reporting system will be put in place?

    Will server owners/operators be protected?

Will the moderation teams on public servers be protected?

And will content creators be protected?

How do we disable this chat reporting for adult-related minecraft servers?

I own a private modded minecraft server and would like to be the only person blocking or banning players.

Please remove this chat reporting feature, it's a feature that dosen't solve any problems and only makes existing ones worse. If some player dosen't want any profanity in their chat that's fine but an optional profanity filter with customizable filters would actually work better than whatever this chat reporting feature would do.

Please do not implement chat reporting for third party servers. Those servers already have their own admins and server rules and can manage themselves. If there is a disagreement or worse a player can separate themselves from the one server and still join many more to find the right fit. Doing this is not only overstepping into the privacy and community management of independent servers, but also setting up Mojang for a moderation nightmare.
