Modern, (greener) Minecraft with educational aspects+

I know it might be a bit of a "liberal", maybe even a bit too politically attaching topic, but nevertheless very important, in my opinion.
It is about mother earth and the picture that Minecraft should paint, or help get painted in you people.

More specifically speaking, shouldn't there be a way to farm specific items WITHOUT the need of building kill based farms? I'm not speaking zombie, skeleton or creeper drops. I had this idea (I might not be the first, so sorry if this idea is doubled), while watching Docm77s Turtle scute farm, which is based on a disign focused on luring turtle babys into a space, where they die upon growing up due to suffocation. It's no direct killing, but I think it paints the wrong picture.

You could argue, that it's the same for spiders. Spieders might seem really nasty, but facts are, they are increadibley important for our environment, catching really nasty, disgusting critters all over, midgets, mosquitos and so on. Point is, you shouldn't kill spiders IF they don't attack you. SO. To get to the idea:

At least for both turtles and spiders, possibly for other mobs as well that are not monster (truly evil) related.
Text cot too long, so here in short: Turtle scute by: killing (fun) or let them die by age and drop more scutes, much more (turtles can grow really old, so it fits)
Spiders: let them spin nests which can catch some nasty (new) mob, let them kill the mob AND drop silk this way.

More possibilities for more mobs as well!

    You don't have to kill the turtles to farm scutes. In fact, there's no reason to kill them, except if you're farming a ridiculous amount of scutes and don't want to bother releasing them. I've just farmed up a stack of scutes, no killing involved. It's not Minecraft's fault that people go for hyper-efficient things like "1x1 pit of 20 very cramped cows" instead of nicer things. 

    The only items that can be obtained exclusively by killing non-monsters are the various meats, like pork. There isn't any way to get pork without killing pigs. 

    Minecraft spiders are closer to a fictional species than not, with how big they are. Giant spiders are a popular type of monster in many different series. Having them do something spider-like could be cool, though.
