The new Terrain Generation is fine. But I believe it does have a toll on performance I have to assure you.
The reason why I think we should add this is because I believe by making the enormous terrain less common and lessen the terrain in general by that will increase room for custom-made terrain. As it is already so advanced, comparing highly detailed terrain and custom-made terrain are so alike. A problem?
And by making more biomes smaller (I am not so sure Mojang would like this idea as it seems like they have already dedicated a lot even make them bigger). I think BY Chance that coming across super-huge biomes like in 1.18 is less common (seriously please fix this) I have to travel thousands of blocks to even escape a biome from spawn a lot of the time.
I believe biomes as big as this makes the game less immersive considering that everything is just so much the same in each biome (continuous and repetitive walking in the same biome). I prefer finding new places faster. You could argue that it makes exploring what every biome the game has to offer a more fulfilling, but I disagree. As even in older versions of terrain it STILL takes a fair amount of time to find every biome.
Maybe just make more minimized terrain a thing (less common or more common) too. At least something that when exploring we have more room to express our creativity ("creativity" is the keyword)/not endure so much annoying exploring.
One way I see it: Make Terrain less elevated.
