In a lot of my survival worlds where I have pets, they die. My dogs get blown up by creepers or skeletons. My cats get hit when I’m trying to get a gift from them. It’s rather annoying (not to mention sad) that I don’t have any way to remember them unless I make a gravestone with nothing to remember my pets by except a sign.
Here’s my idea to solve that problem: a special item you only get when your pet dies. The item shouldn’t be able to be destroyed by anything so that even if your pet died against a cactus or in lava, blown up or destroyed by a falling anvil, you can still get the item back. The item will float out of the Void if your pet died in the Void and it won’t ever despawn when uncollected.
If a named, tamed mob dies, you get a broken name tag back. If your pet wasn’t named before it died, you will instead get a pet bone back. It’s a simple addition that would make having a pet much more common. I know I don’t usually get a pet until I have the materials to heal it up. With this new item, I wouldn’t be as afraid of losing my pet.
