It wood ;) be an undertaking, however, I think there should be a lot more tree and wood variants added and as part of this wood types should not be as biome specific as they currently are.
A good example of this is the current forest biome, and how it has both birch and oak trees, or the jungle having jungle and oak.
My suggestion is that biomes such as the forest and dark oak biomes should occasionally generate spruce trees and other new variants that make sense for the climate that the biome is in.
I feel like this would be a good idea because it would add a little more variation to the wildlife in biomes. Currently biomes that only have one type of wood can feel repetitive and same-y. This could change that without it being a huge overhaul of the biome.
The new types of wood do not need to be included for this change to happen, however, they would create a larger palette for biomes that currently don't have many options, e.g. savanna, mesa, jungle, etc...
