One of the biggest problems in minecraft is the lack of servers. If you want to do something specific, most of the time you would have to go onto a very generalised server to do so (such as hypixel) due to the lack of other servers.
This is due to a couple of things, but ultimately boils down to how hard servers are to find in the first place. Here is usually what happens with new servers:
you make a new server and do the only possible thing, put it on a 3rd party server list. 3rd party server lists are unusable due to the corruption and playercount botting.
Now, due to the already small playercount caused by that, no youtuber with a decent follower count would want to join. In result, the small playerbase would soon die out, and the high cost of running the server would destroy it.
How can we fix this?
An official built in server list could be implemented.
In this server list, you can select genres (eg: bedwars), ping range and minecraft version. To aid in stopping the super big generalised servers staying at the top, the list would prioritise servers with less genres a tiny bit.
You can also report a server for various things such as playercount botting and not documenting genres or breaking the EULA, which will get them removed from the list.
There will also be a featured section, to help new servers who people want to invest their money into grow quicker. 20 featured spaces will be auctioned off per month and the section would be reset every month.
