Nether Portals should never form next to lava

It is way too easy to step out of a nether portal and find that it generated right on the edge of a cliff overlooking the lava ocean. That should not happen, and if necessary, the portal should create a platform of obsidian blocks so that you can exit the portal without falling to your death.
