I think for what sand is used for (concrete, glass, decoration etc.) it deserves a way to become renewable. People are using duplication glitches to obtain more of it, but that seems too cheaty. I believe there should be a way of farming sand that should be an intentional part of the game, and this could be implemented in one of two ways:
1. Through villager trading
2. Through the same system that makes clay renewable.
Point number one is quite self explanatory, (yes, I am aware it can be traded from wandering traders, but 8 blocks is not very much, and not really enough to be considered "renewable" for me) you could just add it to possible trades to a stone mason, or any other profession you see fitting.
Point number two could work by adding in a "wet gravel" block by adding water to gravel with a bottle, and letting pointed dripstone drip the water out to become sand.
Alternatively, if you have any other ideas, feel free to use them as well, but in one way or another, we need renewable sand.
