Even though wardens are intended to sneak by, many players will (and have) seen it as a different kind of challenge. My solution: DON'T prevent cheesing the warden. When a warden is killed by a player entity, it should let out a shriek as it dies that spawns 2 more wardens.
This obviously breaks the mindset of wanting to kill the warden, since the fights will just multiply and you will eventually get surrounded and slaughtered.
While the suggested idea might be seen as a rather punishing solution, beds exploding in the nether are MUCH more hostile, and the community has found creative ways to use them to their benefit.
