The rare stone formation only found with amethyst geodes could have a more vital role in home decoration and corpse memorial. Instead of having calcite break down 1 to 1 into stairs and slabs, having 3 variations of walls [one having room for an inside torch or lanturn, one functioning as an irrigation and or item pipeline when filled with water and set with an input and output hopper, and the final being a polished calcite wall] and a functional stone-like sign that can be used as a decorative grave [being wall like, but with words and the size of 2 in 1 block] could be the start to using semi rare items for additional features and utility. Finally for the stone cutter breaking down 1 calcite block into 16 plates that can be placed freely on walls like a map without the need of item frames could allow for a multitude of designs without needing full block placement. Last but not least, I propose an item that must be found before learning to craft, often being paired with ruined nether portals. Natural miners lecterns will hold books with cursing enchantment. Crafting the miners lecturn would require 4 polished calcite walls, a cut copper slab, 2 obsidian holding the slab up, and 2 lightning rods on the sides. The lectern would function in a few ways. If given a book of curse or waxed before, the book will enchant to the next reader. If given a book of <3 enchantment, an area of effect is given. If above IV enchant, the lecturn cracks and enchants the block below it.
