Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Offhand Spellbook

Spellbooks could fit in perfectly to the fantasy world of Minecraft. Here's a unique idea I propose for them.

APPEARANCE:

  • 3D Model, same as enchantment table book
  • Floats upwards and opens, flipping pages
  • Purple aura

HOW TO USE:

  • Equip in offhand; mainhand must be empty
  • Right clicking opens menu of spells, press the number of the spell to equip it
  • Left click to cast spell
  • Spells have cooldowns

SPELLS:

Burn: Shoots a fire beam, igniting targets on fire.
Poison: Green mist surrounds your hand. Punching any target will inflict the poison effect.
Wither: Holding down the button will cause you to summon black smoke in front of you. Anybody who walks into this black smoke gets inflicted with the wither effect.
Freeze: A trail of ice forms in-front of you. If a target touches it, they’ll be frozen for a couple seconds. Clicking again before time is up will unfreeze them.
Magic Sword: A dark mist forms on your hand and turns into a transparent sword. Hitting any target with it will deal 0 damage and cause it to disappear. Clicking again will deal 7 damage to them, automatically.

These are just examples of spells; there are many more ideas that could be explored here!

    i don't really see how this would fit into minecraft that well, since minecraft's fantasy is a bit different, however nice idea otherwise

    Personally, I'd like if it were just an enchanted book we randomly obtain at a very low frequency or level and instead of the various poision and withering stuff it just allowed us to store more than 64 items in a stack as long as the book stayed in our offhand be like a book of holding. I can see peoples games crashing if they clear a desert and forget so maybe a limit.

    But alot of what you said can be accomplished with a true potion update and I feel a magical book tool could be used differently in more vanilla ways.

    I'd like to see some illusion stuff actually effect undead creatures. Maybe not unfeeling creepers.

    Maybe 3 book types that can come from randomly enchanting.
    One being a spell tome that has power to be a fireball or dragon rage [cause mob abilities] or do instant beacon and potion effects for material exchange [like incantations where putting the material inside the book makes the effect happen instead of casting a spell]
    The next being utility books for item management
    And the final being for enchanting and repairing on the go at a higher cost.

    Tbh putting the book, a tool, and the repair material should function as expected and just doesnt. Books are underutilized as is and I feel this may be a decent compromise

    Feels a little minecraft dungeons' esque... but I feel bundles solve alot and books can too if given an opportunity.

    there should be one spell for slowing down time! maybe one that heals, or one that can teleport you too! Mojang probably won't add this, but hopefully they do!
